This position assists the Business Officer and DSS Director in the administration of the Burke County Social Services Department Budget and financial responsibilities. Position requires flexibility in schedule, but shall not exceed approximately 19 hours of work per workweek.
Duties And Responsibilities- Assists in the formulation and evaluation of the Social Services Department's annual operating budget through researching, gathering data and preparing corresponding documents, as well as in distributing and presenting the annual operating budget to Burke County leadership in coordination with the Business Officer.
- Reviews mileage reimbursements, purchase orders and invoices for accuracy, and assists the Business Officer with the processing of these statements.
- Partners with County Finance department to ensure DSS financial data is reviewed for accuracy and submitted to the Finance department in a timely manner.
- Monitors expenditures to ensure that expenses are within the budget to avoid overspending; suggests and prepares budget amendments and agenda abstracts.
- Reviews financial data to ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local laws and regulations and to ensure revenue maximization.
- Effectively communicates with DSS leadership, staff, clients and other County departments.
- Performs other duties as required or assigned.
- Bachelor Degree in Accounting, Business, Finance, or another related field and 1 year of related experience in bookkeeping, accounting or a related field, OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Valid North Carolina Driver's License.
- Standard vision requirements, with or without corrective lenses.
- Occasionally lifts up to ten (10) pounds.
- Occasionally spends time standing, walking, sitting, climbing or balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling, reaching with hands and arms, and pushing or pulling.
- Routinely spends time speaking or hearing, using hands or fingers to handle, feel, type, or text, and engaging in repetitive motions.
- Working in situations without following safety measures and not wearing appropriate personal protective equipment ("PPE") may result in situations that could result in accidents.
- Working conditions may include: individuals are occasionally exposed to wet, humid conditions, outdoor weather conditions, and blood borne pathogens.
- Proficient in spoken and written English.
- Ability to express and exchange ideas through verbal communication.
- Ability to receive detailed instructions or information through verbal communication.
- Ability to convey detailed instructions loudly, accurately, and/or quickly.
- Ability to prepare and analyze written or computer data.
- Ability to observe general surroundings and activities.

- Ability to operate and use systems, technologies, and machines required to perform duties of this position.
