Community & Regional Planner
Western Piedmont Council of Governments (WPCOG) is seeking a compassionate, organized, and motivated professional to join our Community & Regional Planning department as a Community & Regional Planner.
If you're passionate about community development, land use planning, and helping local governments build stronger, more sustainable communities this role may be for you!
In this role, you'll work closely with local governments to provide professional planning services, conduct research and analysis, develop long-range planning initiatives, and present recommendations that positively impact communities across the region.
Example of Duties- Lead and participate in urban and regional planning projects.
- Conduct land use, zoning, transportation, annexation, stormwater, water quality, and environmental planning studies.
- Research and analyze planning data, ordinances, regulations, and policies.
- Prepare comprehensive plans, feasibility studies, technical reports, and recommendations.
- Serve as a contract planner for member communities, providing day-to-day planning support.
- Present planning recommendations to elected officials, planning boards, community groups, and the public.
- Facilitate public meetings and provide technical guidance on planning-related issues.
- Assist with grant development and preparation for state and federal funding opportunities.
- Create maps and planning documents using GIS software.
- Develop new planning projects and assist member organizations with a variety of planning initiatives.
- A bachelor's in urban and regional planning or a related field.
- Experience in municipal, county, or regional planning.
- Experience in GIS.
- A master's degree is preferred.
- Preferred experience in Professional Document Design and Illustration.
- An equivalent combination of experience and education is accepted.
This position requires work in other offices for a majority of the week.
