James Tool is expanding its machining team to support continued demand for custom tooling, fixtures, and precision‑machine components across multiple industries.
This role is critical in a non‑production, high‑mix job shop environment
, where flexibility, craftsmanship, and independent machining ability are essential.
- Program, set up, and operate Prototrak 3‑axis CNC mills and/or lathes
- Interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and GD&T
- Machine low‑volume, high‑mix parts with precision and repeatability
- Select tooling, set offsets, and verify work holding setups
- Perform test runs and make adjustments to meet specifications
- Hold tight tolerances and ensure part quality
- Perform first‑article and in‑process inspections
- Adapt quickly to changing job priorities in a job shop setting
- Follow all safety procedures and maintain a clean work environment
- Machines: Prototrak CNC Mills & Lathes (3‑Axis)
- Controls: Prototrak Conversational Controls
- CAM Software: Mastercam (preferred)
- Inspection Tools: Calipers, micrometers, indicators, edge finders, parallels
- Aluminum
- Steel (mild & alloy)
- Stainless steel
- Additional materials depending on job requirements
Required:
- 3+ years of CNC machining experience (mills and/or lathes)
- Experience with Prototrak or conversational programming
- Ability to program, set up, and run machines independently
- Strong blueprint reading and GD&T knowledge
- Proficiency with precision measuring tools
- Ability to work in a job shop / non‑production environment
- Strong attention to detail and adaptability
- Mastercam experience
- Experience with custom tooling or fixture work
- Multi‑axis machining exposure
- Clean, organized,
modern and well‑tooled shop - True job shop work —

Pay Range: Competitive (DOE)
