MATERIAL HANDLER

Morganton, NC, US

Position Summary:

Performs order fulfillment and material handling functions for Casegoods production to ensure materials and components are accurately received, organized, staged, and delivered to production areas to meet quality and production requirements for completion of furniture orders.

Position Responsibilities:
  • Move lumber, wood components, hardware, finished parts, and other Casegoods materials to and from storage or production areas by hand or using material-handling equipment.
  • Attach identifying tags to materials, components, pallets, carts, or containers, or mark them with identifying information.
  • Read work orders, production tickets, and job notes, or receive oral instructions to determine work assignments and material or equipment needs.
  • Stack and organize Casegoods materials and components in designated locations such as racks, bins, carts, or staging areas.
  • Record quantities of materials or units handled or moved using daily production sheets, work tickets, or other required documentation.
  • Direct and position carts, bins, pallets, racks, and other receptacles so they can be properly loaded and unloaded by production personnel.
  • Verify materials and components against production tickets to ensure the correct items and quantities staged for production.
  • Locate, stage, and deliver Casegoods components and materials to the appropriate production departments according to production schedules.
  • Inspect materials and components for visible damage, defects, incorrect quantities, or other quality concerns and notify the supervisor of any issues.
  • Locate excess materials or components for repairs, rework, or replacement when needed.
  • Process production tickets by matching tickets to materials and components staged for each production week and delivering tickets and materials to the appropriate production areas.
  • Perform daily and other required inventory cycle counts to maintain accurate inventory levels.
  • Assist with maintaining proper organization and inventory of Casegoods hardware, components, lumber, and other production materials.
  • Maintain a neat, clean, and orderly work station and material storage areas.
  • Wear required safety glasses and other PPE as required; work safely and report unsafe conditions to the Department Supervisor.
  • Perform other duties as required by the supervisor.
Essential

Skills and Experience:
  • English required for reading production tickets, work orders, labels, and job notes.
  • Must be knowledgeable in receiving, counting, identifying, and staging materials to meet quantity and production specifications.
  • Must be able to recognize quality problems such as damaged wood components, incorrect materials, color or finish variations, and other visible defects.
  • Knowledge of Casegoods materials, components, hardware, and their intended use is preferred.
  • Must be able to accurately identify and match materials and components to production tickets and work orders.
  • Self-motivated and able to work well independently or with others.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills; basic computer skills.
  • Must be a team player, cooperative, dependable, and have a good attendance record.
Valued but not Required

Skills and Experience:
  • Previous experience in furniture manufacturing or Casegoods production.
  • Experience operating a pallet jack or forklift.
  • Experience with inventory control or material handling.
  • Previous experience reading production tickets or work orders.
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
