Overview

A Caring Alternative, LLC (ACA) is a comprehensive care agency providing behavioral health and substance use disorder services to adults, adolescents, and children in Western North Carolina. An Assertive Community Treatment (ACT) team uses a team approach to meet the needs of individuals with severe and persistent mental illness. The Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant will work with the ACT team to conduct mental assessment and treatment, provide clinical supervision, collaborate with team leaders, support medication administration, educate non‑medical staff, and provide psychiatric backup after hours.

Responsibilities
  • See an individual for assessment and treatment of symptoms and medication responses, including side effects.
  • Provide clinical supervision and oversight of psychiatric services delivered by the NP or PA.
  • Collaborate with the team leader to share overall clinical responsibility for monitoring treatment and supervision.
  • Actively collaborate with nurses to develop and implement medication administration policies and oversee medical care, including regular screenings and wellness management.
  • Educate non‑medical team members on psychiatric and non‑psychiatric medications, side effects, and health‑related conditions.
  • Provide psychiatric backup to the program after‑hours and weekends, possibly on a rotating basis with other psychiatric care providers.
  • Conduct psychiatric evaluations.
  • Consult with medical and mental health providers.
Qualifications
  • A psychiatric nurse practitioner currently licensed as a NP in NC, or a physician assistant currently licensed as a PA in NC.
  • Exceptional written, oral, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • High level proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint).
  • At least 3 years’ experience in clinical services, primary and behavioral health care integration, organizational change processes, and consultation and training development/implementation; experience treating individuals with SPMI.
  • Resume must include degree earned (major & minor), graduation month & year, relevant employment dates including month and year, and populations served.
