Turf Maintenance Manager – Recreation

The City is embarking on the renovation of the athletic fields at Catawba River Soccer Complex and the Catawba Meadows baseball & softball facilities. We are looking for a Turf Maintenance Manager to join our staff at this exciting time to be involved in working with the design firm & contractor to restore our premier athletic fields and oversee the maintenance into the future.

Position performs basic turfgrass management; oversees applications of fertilizer, over seeding, and irrigation of athletic fields. Also performs a variety of manual work and tasks requiring the use of simple motorized equipment and hand tools. Landscapes and maintains recreation parks and grounds including mowing grass, raking leaves, trimming shrubbery, removing trash and brush from grounds, planting trees, shrubbery, flowers, and assisting with the lining of athletic fields.

Schedules and supervises staff pertaining to weekend baseball/softball/and soccer tournaments. Occasionally involves some weekend work to make sure fields are ready for play (staffing/maintenance/weather conditions/damage etc.) and for special events. Position also helps maintain both indoor and outdoor recreation facilities.

Desired qualifications include:

• Experience in turf, lawn, and/or athletic field maintenance and care.
• An Associate’s degree in Turfgrass Management Technologies or related field (or equivalent experience) and a pesticide applicator certification (turf and ornamental) or be able to attain within 12 months.
• Working knowledge of tools and equipment used in landscaping and maintenance of recreational facilities.
• Must be able to perform heavy manual work in varying weather conditions. Ability to lift 75 lbs. safely and be able to bend, stoop and climb in a variety of construction and maintenance situations.
• Must have a driver’s license.
• A Team-Focused attitude and willingness to help out in a variety of task to support the activities and purposes of the City.
