Position: Maintenance Technician (Multi-Craft)

Job Summary

Perform daily maintenance activities as assigned by supervision, manager, or planner‑scheduler. Troubleshoot mechanical issues and repair according to plant/vendor standards. Read and comprehend mechanical drawings, blueprints, and diagrams. Install and maintain mechanical systems and equipment, and complete documentation for calibrations, daily work performance, and preventive maintenance schedules.

Core Responsibilities
  • Repair equipment to manufacturer and plant operational standards while observing safety procedures including LOTO, fall protection, confined space requirements, and appropriate PPE.
  • Utilize task‑specific mechanical equipment and perform required math functions (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, trigonometry, fractions to decimals).
  • Execute preventive maintenance in accordance with technical manuals and SAP work order task lists.
  • Assist with inventory and cost control through proper utilization of parts and materials.
  • Complete all required paperwork accurately (work orders, time cards, material sign‑out cards).
  • Train new millwrights on plant equipment and share best practices.
  • Perform fabrication procedures, bearing installation, monitoring and troubleshooting of overhead cranes and production equipment, lubrication techniques, equipment installation, and proper use of mechanical fasteners.
  • Attend and contribute to required training related to general maintenance in accordance with OSHA regulations.
  • Analyze recurring failures to root cause and implement permanent fixes.
  • Replace or repair defective parts and ensure permanent resolution of issues.
  • Perform any other duties as required by the department supervisor or manager to support department, plant, and company objectives and/or goals.
Qualifications and Experience
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Ability to prioritize and multi‑task.
  • Team oriented with capability to work independently.
  • Commitment to safety and quality (e.g., situational awareness, SGL Excellence).
  • Self‑motivated and quick learner.
  • Welding certificate required; demonstration of welding ability at pre‑hire interview.
  • Ability to work at heights.
  • Electrical aptitude is a plus.
  • Proficiency at reading blueprints, mechanical drawings, manufacturer specifications, and guidelines.
  • Mechanical mathematics knowledge (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, trigonometry, fraction to decimal conversion).
Preferred Experience
  • Industrial welding experience of 3+ years.
  • Current certified welder.
  • Overhead crane experience.
  • Pipe welding, threading, and installation experience.
  • Heavy load rigging experience.
  • Stainless and mild steel welding.
  • Proficiency at reading mechanical drawings, blueprints, and specifications.
  • Confined space maintenance work experience.
  • Hydraulic system troubleshooting and repairs.
  • Machining experience (plus).
