Electrician II (S)
This position works in the construction, installation, maintenance, and repair of campus electrical systems, equipment, components, and fixtures. Work assignments are received from a foreman or supervisor and are performed independently and in accordance with accepted trade practices. New or unusual work orders are usually accompanied by sketches or blueprints. Work is reviewed through inspection of completed work for quality and compliance with work orders and is further evaluated on the basis of the continued workability of equipment, systems, and fixtures repaired or installed.
This position is also required to give general assistance to other staff as needed to meet school property and program needs.

/Management Preferences
- Demonstrated ability to install, maintain, alter, and repair wiring, electrical system components, electrical devices, lighting, machinery, and equipment.
- Skill in measures, cuts, threads, bends, assembles, and installs conduit; draws wire through conduit, does necessary splicing, soldering, and application of friction tape; installs and connects equipment to wiring system.
- Works in the capacity of journeyman electrician in the building of primary and secondary bus ways, and electrical secondary distribution.
- Locates and diagnoses trouble occurring in lighting, receptacles, switches, buzzers, clocks, thermostats, electrically powered equipment, and makes necessary repair.
- Collaboration and teamwork experience - Able to provide general assistance according to school needs – This position is required to assist outside of core trade skills when needed. The assistance could be related to, but not limited to the following. Inclement weather cleanup, moving requests, renovation project preparation, and special event duties for events such as Homecoming, Sports, Senior Prom, and Graduation.
Cooperative assistance to other nearby state agencies could also be required. - Respectful of diverse backgrounds and committed to a harmonious workplace.
Required Minimum
Education and Experience:
- High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma AND
- Two years of experience in the construction or repair of secondary electrical systems; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Based on the nature of work performed, may require appropriate licensure by the governing board or commission.
Compensation & Benefits:
The State of North Carolina offers excellent comprehensive benefits. This is a full-time position (40 hours per week) with State Benefits, including paid vacation, paid sick leave, paid holidays, paid community service leave, retirement, health, dental and vision insurance. Recruitment Salary Range $48,000 to $55,000 - Dependent on qualifying education and relevant experience.
This position is designated Mandatory and must report or stay over during adverse weather events.
