This recruitment is being conducted to fill four (4) part‑time vacancies. While the duties and qualifications for each position are the same, each vacancy has a different work schedule based on operational needs. Working schedule will be the same each week for each position. The available schedules and hiring rates are as follows:
- 12 hours per week:
Mondays – 9am – 9pm - $20 per hour - 19 hours per week:
Tuesdays 9am – 5pm, Wednesdays 9am – 9pm - $20 per hour - 19 hours per week:
Thursdays 9am – 5pm, Fridays 9am – 9pm - $20 per hour - 18 hours per week:
Saturdays 10am – 7pm, Sundays 10am-7pm, $22 per hour
This position provides prompt, compassionate, and clinically excellent out of the hospital emergency medical care to the sick and injured citizens and visitors of Burke County. This position operates emergency vehicles and is responsible for biomedical equipment and other equipment necessary to provide patient and situational assessment, treatment, and transport in an emergency setting. This position requires mandatory overtime.
Duties And Responsibilities- Transports patients and clients safely to and from clinical, ancillary, and support service areas using wheelchairs or other approved transport equipment.
- Maintains a safe and secure environment for patients, clients, coworkers, and the public by adhering to established safety procedures and protocols.
- Demonstrates knowledge of appropriate procedures for transporting patients requiring oxygen and other special accommodations.
- Communicates effectively and professionally with patients, clients, coworkers, clinical staff, dispatch personnel, and supervisors.
- Demonstrates initiative and accountability for individual performance, ongoing learning, and professional development.
- Maintains proficiency in all functions and features of the Transport Tracking System and related technologies.
- Provides age and developmentally appropriate assistance and care in accordance with established guidelines for the populations served.
- Conducts and documents daily vehicle inspections to ensure safe and reliable operation of company vehicles.
- Utilizes GPS navigation systems, including Google Maps, and operates Android tablets or other mobile devices to manage transportation assignments and routes.
- Safely operates company vehicles in various weather conditions, including rain, snow, sleet, and other adverse driving conditions when required.
- Uses smartphones and other communication devices to access company email and maintain communication with clients, dispatchers, and team members.
- Operates vehicles in a safe and defensive manner while ensuring timely transportation of clients to scheduled appointments and destinations.
- Complies with all applicable traffic laws, organizational policies, and transportation regulations.
- Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Prior experience in hospital environment, patient care, and transportation preferred.
- Valid North Carolina Driver's License
- CPR Certification required within 30 days of hire
- Completion of Oxygen Training class with certification for administering oxygen required within 6 months of hire
- Standard vision requirements, with or without corrective lenses
- Occasionally spends time sitting, climbing or balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling, and tasting or smelling
- Routinely lifts/pulls/pushes over one hundred (100) pounds
- Routinely spends time standing and walking
- Frequently spends time speaking or hearing, using hands or finger to handle, feel, type, or text, reaching with hands and arms, pushing or pulling, and engaging in repetitive motions
- Must be able to express and exchange ideas through verbal communication
- Must be able to prepare and analyze written or computer data
- Must be able to engage in visual inspections involving small parts
