This position transports waste containers for Burke County. Position requires approximately 40 hours of work per workweek.
Responsibilities- Transports materials to and from landfills abiding by all traffic laws
- Ensures that all materials are safely unloaded and delivered at their destination
- Inspects and maintains motor vehicles and work locations daily
- Manages the equipment necessary to perform the services of this position
- Participates in and oversees the training of assigned General Services Department personnel
- Cross‑train and act as backup for Heavy Equipment Operator, including operating other heavy‑duty equipment in the landfill operations.
- Performs other duties as required or assigned
Education and Experience
- High School Diploma or GED
- At least one (1) to three (3) years of experience needed for this position
- Valid North Carolina Driver's License
- Valid North Carolina Class A or B Commercial Driver's License
- Vision requirements, with or without corrective lenses, include: close and distant vision, ability to adjust focus, depth and color perception, night vision, and peripheral vision
- Working in situations without following safety measures and not wearing appropriate personal protective equipment ("PPE") may result in situations that could result in critical illness, total disability, or loss of life
- Occasionally lifts up to one hundred (100) pounds
- Routinely lifts more than one hundred (100) pounds
- Routinely spends time standing, walking, climbing or balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling, pushing or pulling, and reaching with hands and arms
- Frequently spends time sitting and engaging in repetitive motions
- Working conditions include:
- Individuals routinely work in high, precarious places
- Individuals frequently work near moving mechanical parts
- Individuals are frequently exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals, outdoor weather conditions, extreme heat (non‑weather), and extreme cold (non‑weather)
- Proficient in spoken and written English
- Ability to follow basic guidelines and procedures
- Ability to express or exchange ideas
- Ability to receive instructions or information through verbal communication
- Ability to use systems, technologies, motor vehicles, and machines necessary to perform groundskeeping services such as lawn mowers
