Position:
Deputy Municipal Court Clerk
Compensation: $20.00/hour
Workers under the supervision of the Municipal Court Clerk. Arraigns defendants during non‑office hours when the Court Clerk or Judge is unavailable. Responsible for signing warrants for officers and performing duties in compliance with City Code, State Regulations, and departmental policies and directives.
Essential Duties- Prepare all forms needed to perform an arraignment.
- Arraign defendants who have been arrested.
- Read compliance statements and explain rights to defendants, sign all forms, have defendant sign documents, and provide information about each violation.
- Set court dates for defendants to appear before the Municipal Court Judge.
- Manage distraught and irate defendants.
- Perform other work‑related duties and projects as assigned by the Municipal Court Clerk.
- Maintain confidentiality of sensitive and legally protected information.
- Set a bond amount for defendants to post to be released from custody.
Physical Requirements
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to type, file or lift office supplies up to 20 pounds. The work is typically performed after office hours, on‑call (Mon‑Sun 5:00 PM–8:00 AM), and may vary. The job involves frequent internal and external contact, but generally on routine matters such as furnishing or obtaining information.
Technology & EquipmentGeneral office equipment is frequently used, including but not limited to computers, laptops, telephone and cell phone, printers, scanners, copiers, and cameras.
Contact & SupervisionReports to the Court Clerk. The position involves frequent internal and external contact, but generally on routine matters such as furnishing or obtaining information.
Requirements- High school diploma or GED.
- One year of work experience in a legal field that would enable the individual to perform the duties of the position.
- Advanced user of Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook.
