Description

The department of Facilities Planning and Space Management at West Virginia University is currently accepting applications for a (Hybrid) Space & Facilities Planning Specialist.

About the Opportunity

The Space & Facilities Planning Specialist will provide Space Requests and Space Utilization assistance, supporting the Assistant Director in responding to campus space requests. Analyze space data, drawings, and verified field conditions to help identify available or underutilized space. Work with departments to define space needs and requirements. Support the development of proposed space solutions by developing test fits and providing documentation analysis, and graphics to support data-informed space solutions.

What You'll Do
  • Drafting and Project Drawing Development – Serve as the primary resource for drafting and technical drawing support for Campus Planning and Interior Design staff. Conduct field verification and measurements to document existing building conditions. Develop accurate existing-conditions base drawings in Revit and/or AutoCAD reflecting verified dimensions, ceiling types, lighting and electrical locations, existing furniture layouts, and other key building features. These base drawings serve as the foundation for planning and interior design project development.
  • Space Audit Administration Support – Support the Space Management group during the annual University Space Audit through space data collection, verification and reconciliation. Coordinate with building supervisors and department contacts to ensure accurate and timely data submission. Conduct limited physical space audits as needed and assist in resolving discrepancies to support data accuracy and integrity.
  • Building Drawings and CAD/BIM File Management – Support the updating of University building floor plan files, with Auto CAD serving as the primary system of record. Update drawings to reflect verified existing conditions, renovations, and space changes. Develop Revit models for selected buildings and floors to support space studies and visualization. Convert consultant and legacy files into standardized AutoCAD and/or Revit formats in accordance with University standards.
  • Design Standards, Policies & Procedures – Assist with the documentation and maintenance of departmental policies, procedures, and standards related to space documentation and interior planning guidelines. Coordinate with Design & Construction to support consistency with established standards.
  • Professional Development – Research and benchmark best practices related to space management, facilities data, and planning support, and share findings with the Assistant Director to support continuous improvement.
  • Ad hoc responsibilities – Perform additional responsibilities and ad hoc tasks as assigned by the Assistant Director of Facilities Planning and Space Management.
Qualifications
  • A.A.S/B.A./B.S. in Architectural Technology, Computer-Aided Drafting & Design, Interior Architecture, or related field
  • A minimum of one (1) year experience in the following:
    • Providing drafting and analytical support to facilities planning interior design, space management or similar units
