Program Director - Statler College Advising Center 28751
The Statler College of Engineering and Mineral Resources at West Virginia University is currently accepting applications for a Program Director for the Advising Center.
This position reports to the Associate Dean and is responsible for the oversight of the academic advising processes at the advising center for the Statler College.

- Advise students and maintain student academic records and files to ensure they represent an accurate, complete, and current account of student s academic progress.
- Develop academic advising for students who are transitioning in the Statler College.
- Identify and provide timely outreach for struggling students to assist in college/university retention initiatives. Provide guidance in course selection in keeping with the student s interest. Describe course and any prerequisites. Explain general education and major requirements.
- Assist students in developing education plans.
- Assist students in understanding the importance of a timely graduation and its implications for financial aid
- Be accessible for advising students in meetings either in groups or individually during posted office hours, telephone, or e-mail, during fall and winter semesters.
- Provide advising and counseling to students who are probationary, on deferred suspension or who have been reinstated after suspension.
- Develop academic advising for students who are transitioning in the Statler College.
- Supervise and develop academic advisors for both in-major students as well as first-year students.
- Oversee academic advising procedures, processes, and documentation for all undergraduate students within the college.
- Collaborate with staff, faculty, administrators, and internal departments to research and resolve complex student issues related to registration.
- Identify and provide timely outreach for struggling students to assist in college/university retention initiatives.
- Assist with accreditation maintenance by collecting and analyzing data on student demographics, undergraduate enrollment, and degree confirmations.
- Oversee and participate in New Student Orientation for the purpose of introducing freshmen and transfer students to the undergraduate programs, the College’s application and admission procedures, and the University’s General Education Foundation curriculum.
- Work collaboratively with other University units to advocate for the Statler College students and communicate future policy changes and implications to the advising team.
- Review incoming transfer student coursework, interact with the Transfer Office of the Registrar to articulate appropriate coursework, and advise transfer students, as assigned.
- May teach and coordinate first-year seminar and/or strategies courses for students on academic probation.
- Develop and maintain a yearly advising assessment for undergraduate advising.
- Maintain current knowledge of federal statutes surrounding Course Program of Study (CPOS) and financial aid requirements.
- Effectively communicate the curriculum and graduation requirements.
- Provide updated information regarding students’ academic performance throughout the semester to academic advisors, coaches, and Academic Support Services.
- Provide knowledge of and proactively provide referrals for campus services as needed (e.g., learning support, counseling/health center, career services, financial aid, registrar, academic conflict protocols).
- Develop advising materials and programs.
