The Health Sciences & Technology Academy (HSTA) at West Virginia University is currently accepting applications for a (Hybrid) Community Research Specialist.
About the OpportunityWe are seeking a dedicated Community Research Specialist to join our team, specializing in facilitating research projects with high school teachers and their students. The ideal candidate for this HYBRID position will live in WV and will guide educators in developing, implementing, and analyzing community research initiatives and projects. This role demands proficiency in statistics, analysis, pedagogy, and effective communication to foster strong partnerships and facilitate research endeavors.
Must be willing to travel.
AreaSouth-central HSTA regions of WV, counties which include Webster, Braxton, Roane, Clay, Gilmer, Wyoming, Calhoun, Greenbrier, Fayette, Kanawha, Cabell, Lincoln, Boone, McDowell and others as needed and assigned.

- Guide educators in developing, implementing, and analyzing community research initiatives and projects.
- Facilitate research projects with HSTA high school teachers and their students and the HSTA program.
- Teach and communicate skills to foster strong partnerships and facilitate research endeavors.
- Organize data analysis with effective teaching and communication skills.
- Develop research data and collection systems.
- Lead large group events and provide effective training.
- Deliver compelling oral and written reports at state and national levels.
- Translate instruction and complex topics to high school students.
- Master's degree in education Curriculum, STEM, Public Health, or related field.
- A minimum of six (6) months of experience in the following:
- Experience in developing comprehensive research and data collection systems.
- University, governmental, or service-oriented non-profit organization preferred.
- All qualifications must be met by the time of employment.
Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of State, Board of Trustees, university, and Health Sciences Technology Academy policies preferred.
- Proficiency in information gathering, data collection, and report writing.
- Demonstrated expertise in policy and procedure development.
- Prior experience in curriculum development, grant writing, and project management.
- Familiarity with professional, staff, and student training methodologies.
- Ability to deliver compelling oral and written reports at state and national levels.
- Proven ability to establish and maintain strong partnerships with diverse stakeholders.
- Excellent communication and conflict resolution skills, especially in controversial situations.
- Proficiency in prioritizing responsibilities and initiating work independently.
- Strong analytical skills to research information and derive valid conclusions.
- Experience in grant writing, oversight, and protocol development.
- Ability to lead large group events and provide effective training.
- Familiarity with institutional policies, procedures, and IRB protocols.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, REDCap Software, and curriculum development.
- Willingness to travel across state and national borders.
- Valid driver's license.
