Position: Assistant Professor - Washington Center for Civics, Culture, and Statesmanship
The Washington Center for Civics, Culture, and Statesmanship at West Virginia University seeks to hire a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor, with scholarly expertise in the Roman Empire through the Reformation. The preferred start date is August 14, 2026. The Center seeks people who are accomplished in teaching, writing, and professional service as well as one or more of the following: recruitment of students, fundraising, organization of conferences, engagement with the wider public, and commentary on contemporary politics. The Center is devoted to freedom of speech, free inquiry, and intellectual independence. The Center is seeking candidates who resist external pressures and demonstrate independence of mind especially in the midst of recent pressures to suppress certain inquiries and conform to the dominant ideology.

Responsibilities:

The successful candidate will be expected to teach courses in the core curriculum of the Center but also design electives that advance its mission. The person hired in this position will maintain an active research agenda that advances the Center's intellectual mission. The teaching load is 3/3.

Professional

Qualifications:

The successful candidate must have a Ph.D. in History, or a closely related field.
