Core Duties and Responsibilities
  • Rotates in all Diagnostic areas for development of technical skills (Fluoro, Mobiles, Routine, Operating Room, Endoscopy, Orthopedics).
  • Performs image procedures based on assessment of the patient status, service request, and imaging protocols. Supervision and periodic image evaluations apply.
  • Produces images of optimal quality using imaging equipment and systems for image delivery and archiving.
  • Selects exposure factors based on patient size, condition, and pathology to achieve optimal image quality with minimal radiation exposure.
  • Minimizes radiation exposure to self, patients, and staff using shielding, collimation, inverse square law, and by minimizing repeats.
  • Maintains expertise in anatomy, physiology, and pathology related to imaging to optimize procedures and patient care/safety.
  • Assesses patient needs and provides imaging-related comfort, hygiene, range of motion support as appropriate.
  • Prepares contrast agents, specific pharmaceuticals, and sterile trays per procedural guidelines and protocols.
  • Educates patients regarding radiographic procedures by explaining the procedure and answering questions.
  • Promotes a team approach to Radiology services by interacting positively with technical, support, nursing, and medical staff.
  • Engages in problem solving, crisis management, systems implementation, and performance improvements to support high quality, cost-effective patient care.
  • Adheres to ARRT Code of Ethics, WVUH policies, Radiology Department procedures, state/federal regulations, and Joint Commission guidelines.
  • Reports equipment failures immediately upon identification.
  • Completes in-services and competencies by required dates and applies knowledge gained.
  • Positions patients accurately according to established protocols.
  • Participates in daily work flow coordination.
  • Provides clinical supervision and instruction to radiology students within program and accrediting body policies.
  • Ensures all vital components of the imaging process are completed in full.
Qualifications

Education, Certification, and/or Licensure:

For West Virginia, Ohio, and Maryland locations:

  • Completion of an Accredited Radiography School
  • Must be registered (or registry eligible) by the ARRT in Radiography. If registry eligible, must pass boards within 6 months of hire.
  • Radiologic Technologist through the West Virginia Medical Imaging and Radiation Therapy Technology Board of Examiners, or applicable state where services will be performed.
  • Certification in Basic Life Support within 30 days of hire
  • West Virginia state criminal background check required, and Federal, if applicable, for DHHR BMS regulated area

For Pennsylvania locations:

  • Completion of an Accredited Radiography School
  • Must be registered (or registry eligible) by the ARRT in Radiography. If registry eligible, must pass boards within one year of hire.
  • Certification in Basic Life Support within 30 days of hire
  • State criminal background check required, and Federal, if applicable, for DHHR BMS regulated area
Physical Requirements
  • Differentiate various shades of gray as depicted on a monitor.
  • Stand and walk for prolonged periods.
  • Wear a lead apron weighing 8 to 15 pounds for extended periods.
  • Lift, push, and pull up to 50 pounds; carry items up to 20 pounds.
Working Environment
  • Exposure to minimal radiation within occupational guidelines; monitored by dosimeter.
  • Exposure to airborne particles and bodily fluids.
  • Operation of imaging equipment with automated moving parts.
Skills and Abilities
  • Ability to interact positively with patients, families, and health care team members.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple situations simultaneously.
  • Ability to adapt positioning techniques and equipment when patient condition affects routine positioning.

May have flexibility in shifts and hours.
