Additional Notes

33‑bed Trauma and General Surgery inpatient unit. We are a high‑impact, fast‑paced nursing unit that works with challenging patient‑care issues allowing nurses to practice at the top of their scope and abilities. On 7 East we encounter a variety of patient conditions and care modalities. We see complex wound care with a variety of drains and devices, traumatic injuries—including chest‑wall injuries requiring chest‑tubes and respiratory support, traumatic brain injuries presenting their own complex challenges—and complex spinal cord injuries as well as other medical and surgical conditions that our patients experience.

7 East nurses work collaboratively with care management, surgical and medical services, rehabilitation services and perioperative services. 7 East is also a nationally‑recognized Comprehensive Bariatric Surgery Center, working with patients undergoing bariatric weight‑loss surgeries and experiencing the renewal that can provide those patients. 7 East has both step‑down and floor patients allowing nurses to experience two levels of care, the breadth and time‑management of the floor, and the depth and critical thinking of the step‑down.

We maintain a ratio of 1:6 for the floor and 1:3 for the Step‑down.
