-Stepdown/Med Surg # Beds: 29 bed unit that is currently under construction. All beds will be step down equipped with an opening in first quarter 2026 Nurse:
Patient Ratios:
Ratios for step down 3:1, floor 6:1 Required Certifications (i.e., BLS, ACLS?) Common diagnoses/Types of patients
- Flex unit:
Serves both floor and step-down patients, based on patient and hospital needs.
- Diverse patient population with primarily medical diagnoses - medicine unit Experience or 'Must have' skills:
Looking for new and experienced nurses;
We need the candidates to be able to handle a 6 patient (med-surg) or a 3 patient (stepdown) MUST HAVE EPIC EXPERIENCE Are RNs required to titrate drips?: RNs will have orders written to titrate drips. Common titratable &/or set rate drips:
Heparin, insulin, anti-hypertensives, antiarrythmics, phenobarbitol, ketamine, morphine/dilaudid/fentanyl PCAs, TPN Charge Nurse/House Supervisor? Does the charge nurse take an assignment?:
Have charge RNs and House Supervisors 24/7. Charge RNs will likely taken an assignment when unit first opens, but the goal is to always run with a free charge RN. Are there nurse aids on this unit/Ratios:
There are nurse aids (we call them Clinical Associates or CAs here). The goal is to have 3 CAs at all times so the ratio would be 1:10 RT Equipment (vents, Cpap, BiPap, etc):
Will see CPAP, BiPAP on floor and stepdown. Will see HiFlow and vents in stepdown; if vents need settings adjusted they go to ICU. Are there Tele/Monitor Techs on this unit? Are RNs required to read their own strips? What brand are the tele monitors?:
We have a remote telemetry surveillance center; we have central monitoring available on the unit. RNs are not expected to read their own strips. We use Phillips telemetry monitoring equipment. Shifts & Scheduling (Do you allow self-scheduling? Block scheduling?): 12-hour shifts. Block scheduling not a guarantee, but do my absolute best to give everyone what they request. Weekend Requirements:
Agency RN positions will be posted as weekend positions. Holiday Requirements:
Expect to work about half of all WVUH recognized holidays. Is there call or a standby requirement?:
No call or standby requirement. Floating Requirements:
First to float or be pulled to other floor/stepdown units. Scrub Color/Dress code:
Any combination of royal blue and white. Unit/Department specific orientation:
Nights Night shift; every other weekend. 7p-7:30a. Holidays as scheduled
