Job Summary

A registered nurse position is available in a Step Down Unit located in Morgantown, West Virginia. This role involves providing specialized patient care within a unit that manages cardiac and medical-surgical patients. Candidates are required to bring their license on the first day of assignment. The position is scheduled for weekend days, with shifts from 7:00 AM to 7:30 PM.

Job Details
  • Schedule:

    Weekend days, 12‑hour shifts from 7:00 AM to 7:30 PM, minimum of 36 hours per week.
  • Required Qualifications:

    Valid license (willing to wait), BLS (Basic Life Support) certification, ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) certification, NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale), 1 year of experience in a related setting, experience with cardiac patients preferred.
  • Common diagnoses/types of patients:
    Cardiology, heart failure, cardiac surgery, medicine, and hospitalist (medical‑surgical).
  • Nurse skill requirements: RNs are expected to read their own telemonitor strips on Phillips monitors.
  • Additional responsibilities:
    The role involves working with cardiac patients who may require titration of drips such as Heparin, Insulin, Nitro, Cardizem, Nicardipine, Lasix, Amiodarone, Dobutamine.
  • Unit specifics:
    Dedicated charge nurse on each shift; clinical associates (nurse aides) on duty, typically with ratios averaging 1:16 overnight when only 2 are present, or 1:8 when 4 are on duty.
  • RT Equipment:
    Includes NC, CPAP, BiPAP, HFNC, trach to vent (with dedicated RT for the unit).
  • Floats:
    Rotational pull to the floor assignment may be required, with first priority for float staff.
  • Dress code:
    Royal blue scrubs.
  • Orientation:
    Unit/department‑specific orientation is provided.
  • Holiday schedule:
    Includes one evening and one day holiday (Black Friday, Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Years Eve, or New Years Day).
  • Additional notes:
    Self‑scheduling is permitted.
