American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Trauma & General Surgery inpatient unit (stepdown and floor) requiring Epic and Level 1 trauma experience for a 13-week night shift contract.
Requirements- Active WV RN license or compact RN license required
- Current BLS certification required
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
- Level 1 trauma experience required
- Epic EMR experience required
- Experience with 1:6 nurse-to-patient ratios required
- Experience with complex wound care, drains, devices, chest tubes, respiratory support, TBIs, and complex spinal cord injuries required
- Ability to read and validate telemetry strips required
- Driver's license address must reflect a residence more than 50 miles from the facility
- Two references required for consideration: one supervisor reference and one peer or additional supervisor reference (e.g., Charge RN)
- Skills checklist completed within the past year required for consideration
- Copies of certifications and driver's license required for consideration
- Works on a 30-bed Trauma & General Surgery inpatient unit that includes both stepdown and floor-level care
- Unit is also a nationally recognized Comprehensive Bariatric Surgery Center
- Patient population includes multi-trauma, TBI, fractures, general surgery (cholecystectomies, ostomies), bariatric surgery, and complex spinal cord injuries
- Nurse-to-patient ratios are 1:6 for floor (med/surg) patients and 1:3 for stepdown patients
- Common drips include heparin and PCAs on the floor; insulin, Cardizem, and other non-pressors on stepdown
- Telemetry is present on the unit; monitor techs read and run strips, but RNs must be able to validate and read strips independently
- Respiratory therapy is available 24/7; stable/chronic vents only
- EMR is Epic; experience is required
- 12-hour night shifts (7p–7:30a)
- Every other weekend (EOW) or 2 weekends per 4-week schedule required
- Holidays are worked as integrated into the permanent staff holiday schedule
- Floating to like units (floor/stepdown) is required
- 13-week contract
- High-acuity, fast-paced unit where nurses practice at the top of their scope across two levels of care
- Clinical Associates (nurse aides) are available on the unit, with up to 4 when fully staffed
- A free charge nurse is budgeted 24/7, and a house supervisor is available at all times
- RNs collaborate with care management, surgical and medical services, rehabilitation services, and perioperative services
- Royal blue scrubs are required
- Candidates who have previously worked at any WVU Medicine location must have taken a 2-year break before being considered
- Travelers who have worked within the WVU system for a cumulative year must also take a 2-year break before returning
- All candidates interview directly with a unit manager
