Overview
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Cardiac Stepdown (HVI) night shift position requiring a minimum of 2 years of cardiac/vascular experience and active WV or compact RN license.
Requirements- Active WV or compact RN license required
- Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
- Minimum 2 years of cardiac and/or vascular nursing experience required
- Must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible
- A valid, unexpired driver s license is required for consideration
- Two references required: one supervisor reference and one peer reference (e.g., charge RN); if the candidate worked a permanent position in the last 12 months, one supervisor reference must be from that facility
- Skills checklist completed within the past year required for consideration
- Located in an acute care hospital setting on the 10SE Heart & Vascular Institute Cardiac Stepdown unit
- 32-bed unit (all private rooms) comprising 22 stepdown and 12 floor beds
- Stepdown nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:3; floor ratio of 1:6
- Patient population includes complex cardiac and vascular surgery post-op cases: CABG, mid-CABs, maze procedures, valve replacements, Tendyne, mitral clip, LVAD, heart transplants, TAVRs, AAA repair, CEA, femoral bypass, angiograms, and amputations
- Cardiology patients include STEMI, NSTEMI, heart failure, Watchman, and cardiac cath procedures such as PTCA, stents, ICDs, ablations, and pacemakers
- RNs are required to titrate drips including heparin, amiodarone, Cardizem, TPA, Lasix, and dobutamine
- Respiratory equipment in use includes CPAP, BiPAP, and high-flow oxygen
- Cardiac monitor technicians (CMTs) are housed on the unit and interpret all telemetry strips
- EMR:
Epic - 12-hour night shifts, three shifts per week
- Every other weekend required
- Holiday coverage required as scheduled
- No on-call or standby requirement
- Floating required to sister units within the Heart and Vascular Institute
- Provide post-operative and acute cardiac and vascular nursing care, including titration of vasoactive and cardiac drips
- Clinical associates (nurse aides) are available on the unit at a ratio of 1:8–10 patients, with a goal of 4–5 CAs per shift around the clock
- Unit charge nurses and house supervisors are available 24/7
- 2–3 shifts of unit-specific orientation provided
- Scrub color: solid royal blue and white
- Unit is recognized for excellent patient care and a strong teamwork culture
- Candidates who have previously worked at any WVU Medicine location must have taken a 2-year break before re-applying
- Travelers who have worked within the WVU system for a cumulative year must also take a 2-year break before returning
- Candidates may only be submitted to one WVU facility at a time
