Registered Nurse (RN) – Neuro Medical‑Surgical

Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Registered Nurse (RN) for a contract assignment in the Neuro Medical‑Surgical Unit at a Level I Trauma Teaching Hospital in Morgantown, WV. This position offers the opportunity to care for adult patients with a wide range of neurological disorders and neurosurgical conditions in a nationally recognized academic medical center dedicated to exceptional patient care, education, and innovation.

The ideal candidate is a compassionate, detail‑oriented nurse with strong assessment skills and experience caring for patients with complex neurological conditions.

Responsibilities
  • Provide comprehensive nursing care to adult patients with neurological and neurosurgical conditions.
  • Perform thorough patient assessments, including frequent neurological evaluations and monitoring for changes in condition.
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate individualized nursing care plans.
  • Administer medications, IV therapies, and other prescribed treatments safely and accurately.
  • Monitor patients recovering from neurosurgical procedures, stroke, seizures, traumatic brain injuries, spinal conditions, and other neurological illnesses.
  • Recognize and respond promptly to changes in neurological status and other medical emergencies.
  • Collaborate with neurologists, neurosurgeons, physicians, therapists, case managers, and the interdisciplinary healthcare team.
  • Educate patients and families regarding diagnoses, medications, rehabilitation, and discharge planning.
  • Accurately document assessments, interventions, and patient outcomes in the electronic medical record (EMR).
  • Adhere to hospital policies, infection prevention standards, and patient safety protocols.
Qualifications
  • Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in any U.S. state.
  • Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
  • Current BLS Certification required.
  • Current ACLS Certification required.
  • Minimum of 2 years of recent Neuro, Medical‑Surgical, Telemetry, Stepdown, or Acute Care nursing experience preferred.
  • Previous experience in a Level I Trauma Center or Teaching Hospital is highly preferred.
  • Strong neurological assessment, critical thinking, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to provide exceptional patient care in a fast‑paced, team‑oriented environment.
  • Local candidates will not be considered.
  • Applicants must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible for this assignment.
  • Must meet all facility credentialing and onboarding requirements prior to the start of the assignment.
