Under general direction, responsible for monitoring all areas of The Village in order to ensure a safe and secure environment for residents, visitors and employees. Monitors building and parking facilities in accordance with Village policies and protocols.

Ensuring Safety and Security Patrols Village property. Observes the movements of persons in and about the facilities and grounds. Detects, investigates and reports incidents and discrepancies, verbally and/or through the appropriate reporting format.

Responds to emergency pendant calls under the direction of the on-duty Nurse.

Always offers assistance when seeing someone in need.

Locks/unlocks doors/alarms to provide appropriate access control for residents, staff and visitors throughout the campus. Provides timely response to all service calls for Security. Enforces applicable laws and Security/Safety- related Mon Health System and Village policies.

Inspects and tests all life-safety equipment, including but not limited to, lights, fire extinguishers, exit signs, resident emergency call system, “buddy flags”, etc., correcting and/or submitting a completed work order by the end of the assigned shift when discrepancies are discovered. Completes safety Inspections, and submits findings in a neat, timely and accurate manner.

Performs minor routine maintenance tasks as needed, i.e., clogged commodes, flooding, etc.

Maintains records, reports and files as required.

Investigates reports of theft, vandalism and accidents immediately upon notification of such an event.

Documents all incidents according to established procedures.

Documents, follows up with, and reports conclusions of any investigation to Supervisory staff in an appropriate and timely manner. Effectively generates reports.

Constructively participates in disaster drills. Displays ability to coordinate and evaluate a fire drill.

Monitors parking lots, loading areas, and vehicular and pedestrian traffic in and around the Village facilities via foot, auto, bicycle, and/or electronic (CCTV) surveillance methodologies. Enforces rules in a firm, fair and consistent manner.

Performs verbal and/or physical intervention (restraint) in situations to protect persons, maintain order and/or advance therapeutic results.

Facilitates Emergency Custody Orders in full compliance with statutory regulations, as well as departmental and MHS hospital policy.

Provides escorts on request for residents, staff and visitors to parking areas or other locations on campus. Provides vehicle jump-starts and assists with vehicle "lock outs".Assists in containing fire and/or relocating residents in event of fire alarm; meets and directs fire department personnel.

Displays ability to make effective decisions based on the information available.

Demonstrates observation skills that are necessary to protect Village residents, property and personnel.

Properly addresses hazardous and security issues per established policy and procedures.

Communication Consults with, and keeps supervisor informed of, activities, needs and problems in assigned areas.

Consistently uses tact and diplomacy for effective resolution of confrontational situations, which may include the need to intervene and/or detain unruly and/or dangerous persons on Village premises. If needed, monitors and assists with residents who have been deemed imminently dangerous to self or others during the time emergency discharge plans are made.
