Position SummaryThe LEAK INSPECTOR is responsible for inspecting public and private establishments and corporate property for gas leakage and maintaining gas leak detection equipment. The scope of the job encompasses the total leak survey program within the designated area of responsibility.
Duties & Responsibilities- Utilize approved gas detection equipment, inspect mains, company service lines, customer service lines, sewer manholes, service curb boxes, gate boxes, telephone conduits, or any other openings where gas may accumulate.
- Inspect meters, gas lines, and gas equipment in residential, industrial or commercial dwellings.
- Inspect wells and well locations, field lines and rights-of-way, and other corporate property for leaks, slips or any other irregularities.
- Identify and classify gas leaks, make minor repairs, and contact dispatch/Supervisor as warranted for hazardous leaks and monitor until relieved by appropriate personnel and/or made safe.
- Prepare records and reports as required using personal, pen-based, and mapping computer systems.
- Make minor repairs to and calibrate equipment used in the performance of assigned duties, keeping the equipment in safe and proper working condition.
- May direct others in completion of leak survey requirements.
- Maintain records documenting compliance with appropriate procedures and regulations.

- Ensure all equipment is maintained in safe, functional, and compliant working conditions.
- May perform other duties as required in higher or lower job classifications as appropriate based upon operator qualifications (OQs).
- Follow all safety protocols and wear appropriate PPE (Personal Protective Equipment), complying with all OSHA, DOT, and company-specific safety regulations.
- Participate in safety meetings, training, and emergency response drills as appropriate.
- Identify and report unsafe conditions or potential hazards.
- Serve as an Individual Contributor without supervisory responsibilities.
- Support and contribute towards team goals and objectives.
- Commitment to maintaining a respectful and safety-focused work environment.
- Capable of performing job duties in compliance with environmental and regulatory requirements.
- Ability to follow instructions and work collaboratively with crews, supervisors, and contractors.
- Competence in using computers, mobile devices, and/or field technology for work orders and reporting.
- Ability to recognize and respond to hazardous conditions and emergency situations, making safe, effective decisions under pressure.
- Clear verbal and written communication skills for reporting hazards, incidents, and job progress.
- High School Diploma or equivalent, required
- At least two (2) years of experience in the natural gas industry, preferred.
- Successful completion of required testing.
- Must possess and maintain a valid driver s license.
- Ability to lift, push, and pull up to 15 pounds independently and to team lift heavier loads safely following established safety procedures.
- Ability to walk, stand, bend, squat, kneel, and/or crouch for extended periods of time, at times in con.ned spaces and/or awkward positions.
- Ability to climb ladders, stairs, etc. and appropriately maintain balance.
