Position: Shop Trailer Mechanic II $5000 New Hire Bonus

Job Summary

The Shop Trailer Technician II is a dedicated on‑site shop position responsible for performing certified DOT inspections, preventative maintenance, light repairs, and advanced repairs under the supervision of a Sr. Shop Trailer Technician.

Compensation

Hourly base pay: $24.23–$36.35/hour (based on location and experience), with a $5,000 new hire bonus ($½ after 30 days, $½ after 180 days). Eligible for commission and incentive programs.

Responsibilities
  • Perform certified DOT inspections and preventative maintenance on light, medium and heavy‑duty trailers.
  • Conduct routine maintenance such as oil changes, battery checks and lubrication.
  • Diagnose, adjust and repair trailer equipment and systems (aluminum, chem‑lite, brakes, air lines, auxiliary pumps and engines, liftgates, brake chambers, steering).
  • Use hand tools, precision instruments, welding equipment, lifts and jacks.
  • Complete DOT forms, paperwork and upload images to Repair Orders (RO) via company devices or apps.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment; assist in daily cleanup.
  • Communicate with Service Writer and Shop Manager to assess customer needs, provide assistance, and discuss repair estimates.
  • Perform minor adjustments and repairs under supervision of higher‑level technicians.
  • Participate in all required safety training and comply with OSHA, EPA, DOT, and company policies.
  • Assist Senior Technician with diagnostics and advanced repairs.

Requirements & Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED plus 3 years of related experience (or equivalent education/experience such as a degree/certification beyond HS plus 5 years).
  • Possess and supply a set of hand tools required for the duties.
  • OEM training and certifications preferred.
  • Pass DOT-regulated pre‑employment background screening.
  • Hold a valid DOT medical card with >4 months validity or a DOT physical.
  • Be at least 21 years old and hold a valid driver’s license.
  • Work physically demanding tasks, including lifting, bending, climbing, walking and performing long periods of moderate heavy labor.
Certifications (Preferred or Required)
  • ASE T8 (PMI) – required, must be obtained within 18 months.
  • ASE T4 (Brakes) – preferred.
  • ASE T5 (Suspension) – preferred.
  • ASE T6 (Electrical & Electronic Systems) – preferred.
  • ASE T7 (HVAC) – preferred.
  • ASE 608/609 (Welding) – preferred.
Skills & Abilities
  • Knowledge of trailer parts and systems, repair, and maintenance.
  • General mechanical aptitude and use of test instruments.
  • Ability to perform physically demanding tasks and lift heavy objects.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Problem‑solving using judgment and reasoning.
  • Ability to determine needed tools and equipment.
