Under general supervision, the Correctional Counselor 1 will function as a member of a team providing services to an assigned caseload of inmates withing the facility. The work of the Correctional Counselor 1 will consist of providing a variety of services to the inmate population. Duties may vary as to job function or area of specialization based on the program being administered.
Responsibilities- Assist the unit Correctional Officer with security duties
- Provide vocational education
- Provide substance abuse education
- Assist with recreational services
- Provide crisis intervention on the unit
- Guide inmates
- Assist with need and/or risk assessments
- Classification and diagnostic evaluations
- Other duties as assigned
- Training: A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a major in criminal justice, corrections, psychology, sociology, counseling, counseling and guidance, criminology, social work, education, therapeutic recreation or closely related field.
- Substitution:
Experience in the area of corrections or related fields may be substituted for the required training on a year-for-year basis.
