The Quality and Lean Manager owns the quality management system and leads continuous improvement at the plant level, serving as the senior quality and operational excellence authority on site. This is a customer-facing leadership role responsible for product quality from incoming material through final inspection and field performance, while driving lean transformation across manufacturing, engineering, and supply chain. The position builds a culture of prevention over detection, partners directly with customers on quality expectations and issue resolution, and uses ERP data to make both quality and process performance measurable, traceable, and actionable.
Key Responsibilities Quality Leadership and Systems- Own and maintain the plant quality management system, including ISO 9001 compliance, internal audits, and continuous improvement of documented procedures
- Lead, develop, and hold accountable the plant quality team, including inspectors and quality technicians
- Establish and report plant quality metrics such as first pass yield, scrap, cost of poor quality, and customer complaint rates, and drive corrective action where targets are missed
- Lead the plant lean roadmap, including kaizen events, value stream mapping, and standard work development across both quality and manufacturing processes
- Drive measurable improvement in throughput, takt time adherence, labor content, and rework reduction in partnership with manufacturing and manufacturing engineering
- Build lean capability across the workforce through training, coaching, and a sustained daily management system
- Serve as the primary quality point of contact for customers, including issue resolution, source inspections, customer audits, and field quality concerns
- Lead root cause analysis and corrective action on customer and field issues, with clear and timely communication back to the customer
- Support active field remediation efforts and ensure containment, correction, and prevention are properly closed out
- Use Epicor Kinetic as the system of record for nonconformance, inspection results, CAPA, and supplier quality data
- Partner with operations and engineering to maintain BOM and quality data integrity in the ERP so inspection plans and records reflect the as-built product
- Translate ERP quality and process data into trend analysis that targets the highest-impact failure modes and improvement opportunities
- Manage incoming inspection and supplier quality performance, including supplier corrective action requests and escalation of recurring supplier issues
- Partner with supply chain on supplier quality and on-time delivery performance
- Bachelor's degree in engineering, quality, or a related field, or equivalent experience
- Demonstrated leadership experience managing a quality team in a manufacturing environment
- Proven track record leading lean or continuous improvement initiatives with measurable results
- Strong working knowledge of ERP systems, with Epicor or similar tier one ERP strongly preferred
- Hands-on command of quality and lean best practices such as root cause analysis, CAPA, FMEA, value stream mapping, and statistical methods
- Experience in customer-facing quality roles, including direct issue resolution and audits
- Working knowledge of ISO 9001 quality management systems
- Experience in HVAC, air handling, or related engineered-to-order manufacturing
- ASQ certification such as CQE, CQM, or CMQ/OE
- Lean or Six Sigma credential, with Six Sigma Black Belt a plus
