Overview
Morris Plains Co-op is seeking a warm, engaging Assistant Teacher to support our play‑based preschool program for children ages 2½–5. This role includes helping create a safe, nurturing classroom, supporting lesson activities, engaging with children through hands‑on learning, and working collaboratively with co‑op families. Hours are Monday–Friday, 9:00 AM–3:00 PM.
As a private, cooperative preschool, we are committed to providing a play‑based, developmentally appropriate, content‑rich program for children ages 2½–5. Our philosophy is based on a flexible approach to early education, a positive approach to discipline, a commitment to parent education, and the belief that children learn best through play. The assistant teacher supports this mission by fostering a child‑centered environment, utilizing The Creative Curriculum as a framework for meaningful, hands‑on explorations.

Duties and Responsibilities- Assist in planning and implementing activities to meet the physical, emotional, intellectual and social needs of students
- Establish routines and procedures for daily learning/play experiences
- Supervise students in the classroom
- Implement and follow health and safety guidelines
- Establish routines with lead teacher and provide positive guidance for behavioural outcomes
- Complete required background checks, including CARI and CHRI
- Complete physical examination, including TB screening
- Physically able to kneel, bend, squat, lift, push, pull, and carry children
- High School Diploma
- Knowledge of the Creative Curriculum
- CPR and First Aid certified
- CDA
