Position: Solar Farm Technician I

The Solar Farm Technician I performs preventative and corrective maintenance for all scopes of an operating power plant, including civil, mechanical, and electrical inspection and repair. The technician monitors the plant’s availability and ensures mechanical and electrical maintenance is performed to maintain safety and operating targets. They execute daily scheduling with a prioritized list of work from planning, maximize generation, and prioritize proactive work.

The role also includes maintaining accountability and readiness of plant tools, equipment, and vehicles; providing technical guidance to the O&M team; tracking and maintaining records of service activities in the digital maintenance management system; and fostering a strong work ethic and culture on the team.

Role Responsibilities
  • Test, maintain, and troubleshoot solar PV electrical equipment
  • Ensure all assigned maintenance tasks are performed safely and according to site operating procedures established for Storage PV sites
  • Complete Lock-Out-Tag-Out (LOTO), JSA’s, Permit to Work, and job-specific documentation required for safe maintenance and repairs
  • Proactively look for improvement opportunities to job-appropriate processes and procedures
  • Perform data collection and prepare reports to meet reporting requirements, documenting all work
  • Assist with balance of plant and switchyard work as required, including substation and collection system maintenance
  • Perform maintenance on trackers, inverters, and other PV electrical equipment as assigned by the Site Supervisor or Lead
  • Monitor maintenance contractors and ensure corrective actions where appropriate
  • Perform current and voltage readings as necessary
  • Identify gaps in safety standards and safety risks in the environment
  • Use available tools to monitor energy output and respond quickly to emergencies or situations requiring immediate troubleshooting and corrective actions
  • Ensure site access, site HSE, security, deliveries, and inspections are performed by site protocols
  • Interface with any third party contractors working at the facilities
  • Available to respond to nontraditional operating hours for operations, maintenance, and emergent issues, including execution of maintenance, tracking work orders, and resolving O&M issues

Job Requirements And Experiences
  • High School diploma or equivalent required
  • Associates degree in Engineering or related field from an accredited US school (correspondence or internet preferred)
  • NABCEP Certification or Electrical License preferred
  • Licensing or Certification experience substitutions include Current Journeyman and/or Current Master Electrician License
  • Unrestricted driver license in good standing
  • Minimum 6 years of work experience as a maintenance electrician (commercial or industrial); experience as a multi-craft maintenance technician performing electrical work on operating equipment; experience in operations and maintenance of power generation, transmission, or distribution
  • Preference for candidates with renewable energy experience, preferably solar
  • Must be skilled in at least one of the following: power plant operations, electrical and mechanical equipment maintenance; substation maintenance
  • Ability to fill out JHA/LOTO/Tailboard forms without assistance
  • Must be competent in power plant safety protocols
  • Must be competent in electrical safety
  • Must be competent in understanding the NEC
  • Knowledge of and experience with hand and power tools
  • Knowledge of environmental and safety policies and procedures
  • Ability to work within tight deadlines, and evolving schedules
  • Ability and willingness to travel to and from job sites as assigned, including supporting other sites
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Routine operation of a computer/tablet and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine, and computer printer
  • Frequent oral and written communications—must communicate verbally at a high level
