Job Overview

Radwaste Chemist or Sr Radwaste Chemist at Dresden Nuclear Power Plant in Morris, IL. This multi‑level role can be filled at either the Radwaste Chemist or Sr Radwaste Chemist level.

Primary Purpose Of Position

Manage specific radwaste and chemistry programs as assigned. The position involves the management and oversight of the radwaste program, maintaining regulatory requirements, vendor oversight, and participation in Emergency Preparedness (EP) and duty rotation. The incumbent will function in a mentoring role and utilize experience to operate with minimal oversight.

Primary Duties And Accountabilities
  • Monitor collection and processing system chemistry and operational parameters to recommend maintaining radwaste system health and minimizing waste generation.
  • Act as the radwaste system point of contact, aggressively advocate with other work groups and CEC leadership to resolve system issues and ensure radwaste health.
  • Set goals and communicate progress on solid/liquid system processing metrics.
  • Develop and execute plans for spent resin processing and management, overseeing vendors and coordinating with other CEC work groups.
  • Establish and manage budget, forecasting, accruals, and contracts for radioactive waste such as spent resin, dry activated waste, and metals.
  • Work with radwaste shipping to ensure all radwaste types are shipped off‑site timely for cost optimization.
  • Provide leadership and mentoring, supporting radwaste programs and communication with the CEC. This includes developing backup support, assisting with vendor oversight, and guiding key projects.
  • Receive and provide radwaste related training, including preparing and delivering lesson plans. Observe and participate in classroom training activities.
  • Perform other job assignments and duties as directed by management or pursuant to company policy, including but not limited to emergency response, departmental coverage, call‑outs, and support of outage activities outside the department.
Salary and Benefits

Radwaste Chemist (Job Code XBAH):
Expected salary range $94,500 – $105,000, along with a comprehensive benefits package including bonus program, 401(k) with company match, employee stock purchase program, medical, dental, vision, wellbeing programs, disability and life insurance, paid time off, and more.

Sr Radwaste Chemist (Job Code XBAJ):
Expected salary range $116,100 – $129,000, along with a comprehensive benefits package including bonus program, 401(k) with company match, employee stock purchase program, medical, dental, vision, wellbeing programs, disability and life insurance, paid time off, and more.

Minimum Qualifications – Radwaste Chemist
  • Bachelor’s degree in chemistry or related physical science with 2 years of related experience in Operations, Chemistry, or Radwaste, OR
  • Current or previous Senior Reactor Operator license with 2 years of operations, chemistry, or radioactive waste experience, OR
  • Associate’s degree in chemistry or related physical science with 4 years of operations, chemistry, or radioactive waste experience, OR
  • High school diploma/GED with 6 years of operations, chemistry, or radioactive waste experience.
  • Maintain minimum access requirements or unescorted access requirements, as applicable, and favorable medical examination and/or testing in accordance with position duties.
Minimum Qualifications – Sr Radwaste Chemist
  • Bachelor’s degree in chemistry or related physical science with 5 years of related experience in Operations, Chemistry, or Radwaste, OR
  • Associate’s degree in related physical science with 7 years of related experience in Operations, Chemistry, or Radwaste, OR
  • High school diploma/GED with 9 years of related experience in Operations, Chemistry, or Radwaste.
  • Maintain minimum access requirements or unescorted access requirements, as applicable, and favorable medical examination and/or testing in accordance with position duties.
Preferred Qualifications – Radwaste Chemist
  • Prior nuclear power plant operations and chemistry experience.
