Summary: The Outside Plant Operator will operate and monitor the plant equipment and systems that support the safe, efficient, reliable, and environmentally should production of high-pressure steam and electricity.

Job Description: With safety as a priority, the Outside Plant Operator is expected to become competent to perform the following tasks during his/her prescribed training term:

  • Performs station shift operations, including start-up and shutdown of equipment;
  • Perform operations tasks on three Frame 6001B gas turbines;
  • Perform operations tasks on one steam turbine;
  • Perform operations tasks on two gas compressors;
  • Performs resin regenerations, RO cleaning, and dual media backwashing;
  • Operate startup and shutdown two auxiliary boilers as necessary;
  • Operate, startup and shutdown boiler feed pumps, DA feed pumps and deaerator;
  • Operate and maintain all balance of plant equipment;
  • Assists CRO in controls operation as needed;
  • Performs routine preventive and predictive maintenance on all systems and equipment; supports corrective maintenance efforts on selected equipment when properly trained of supervised;
  • Perform water chemistry testing and system adjustments to maintain proper chemistry control;
  • Maintains shift operating logs and records, including the reading and recording of gauges and meters;
  • Arranges for or provides timely care and maintenance of all plant equipment;
  • Issue work permits for Cogeneration area equipment;
  • Generate, hang and clear lock out tag out packages;
  • Perform confined space attendant, and entrant duties;
  • Performs housekeeping duties as required;
  • Implements safe working habits identifies hazards and takes corrective actions;
  • Write and review Cogeneration and utilities area procedures;
  • Write reports as necessary;
  • Be able to respond to control room alarms for the purpose of relieving the CRO for up to an hour at a time for meetings or other activities;
  • Ability to learn the principles and operations of power plant equipment.

Requirements:

Education

  • High school diploma or equivalent required;
  • Post-secondary degree or certificate from a technical or trade school preferred.

Experience

  • Two (2) years’ Operator experience in a power plant environment; technical training and previous success in performing technical functions in a power plant environment preferred;

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to perform manual tasks including but not limited to operation of hand and power tools;
  • Ability to lift at least 80 lbs;
  • Ability to bend and maneuver in tight, cramped quarters;
  • Ability to work in hot, noisy and dark environments;
  • Ability to work at heights;
  • Ability to work with and wear respiratory protection;
  • Ability to reach with hands and arms above shoulder level and at shoulder level;
  • Ability to walk, stand, stoop, kneel, and bend for prolonged periods of time;
  • · Able to grip and manually manipulate, often with repetitive motion, items such as, but not limited to, hand tools and machine parts;
  • Ability to communicate clearly with plant personnel, including the ability to give and receive instructions over a radio;
  • Ability to see clearly; safely and readily identifying the labels, gauges, dials and indicators typically encountered in performing job duties;
  • Ability to read, write and understand instructions and procedures in English;
