Combination Pipe Welder
The right candidate will have 4 years of welding experience in the petrochemical industry or a related field, with the required weld-testing certifications from Starcon to perform the assigned tasks. You are responsible for performing X-ray-quality welding in all positions using SMAW and GTAW with a variety of electrodes. You will be required to use torch-cutting and operate equipment, such as pipe beveling machines.
You will ensure all hold points and requirements on code work are met. You must be willing to do tasks other than welding, such as pipe fitting, rigging, and boilermaker duties, as directed.

- Perform x-ray quality welding in all positions with the SMAW and GTAW processes with a variety of electrodes
- Weld piping, structural steel, and supports
- Basic understanding of isometric drawings and blueprints
- Ability to read and understand WPS/PQR documents
- Competent to verify fit-ups and dimensions
- Ability to read and understand isometric drawings
- Mathematical skills as they pertain to the execution of their work tasks
- Able to pass the appropriate weld test(s) given by Starcon or the client
- Welding in confined spaces
- Welding awkward positions and locations
- Ability to work under supplied air and with respiratory protection
- 2” GTAW .625” coupon (100% X-ray) - Standard test
- 2” GTAW Root& hot, SMAW 701 Fill & cap. (100% X-ray) – Standard test
- 4” S/80 GTAW
35/45 to 25/35 in convection box simulation. (100% X-ray) - add’ for Tube welder - 4” S/80 GTAW

to 304 in convection box simulation. (100% X-ray) – add’ Tube welder - Ability to conduct field-determined measurements, fabricate, modify, and/or revise piping per sketches, isometric drawings, and blueprints.
- Must have basic rigging knowledge associated with the moving of piping details and fittings
- Must set up your own jobs, stringing their own welding leads, building fireboxes in prep for welding, etc.
The work environment will require you to work in SCBA, special protective PPE specific to the unit, and working ended work hours may be required. Exposure to outdoor weather conditions. Must be physically able to carry up to 50 lbs. of tools and/or material. Housekeeping
