Position SummaryThe Corporate Accounting Manager is responsible for managing core accounting functions and ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and timeliness of the company’s financial records. This role oversees some aspects of the monthly close process, supports financial reporting activities, maintains compliance with U.S. GAAP and internal controls, while partnering across the finance organization.
Key Responsibilities- Accounting Operations – Partner with shared services on all A/P, operating expenses, and expense allocations to ensure accuracy.
- Provide ad hoc analysis on operating spend to support underwriters & senior management and manage cost center structure and related reporting hierarchy.
- Manage the quarterly and annual close processes, ensuring timely and accurate financial results.
- Prepare and/or review and approve journal entries, balance sheet reconciliations, and account analyses.
- Oversee general ledger activities, including accruals, prepaid expenses, fixed assets, banking transactions, and intercompany transactions.
- Responsible for annual forecast/budget within the scope of operating expenses.
- Coordination and oversight of collateral arrangements related to assumed business and intercompany arrangements, including trust accounts and letters of credit.
- Ensure consistent application of corporate accounting policies, procedures, and controls.
- Other ad-hoc requests as needed.
- Partner with the Financial Reporting team to support preparation of quarterly internal management reports and regulatory reporting (within the scope of OpEx).
- Provide supporting schedules and documentation for internal management reporting and regulatory reporting.
- Responsible for variance analysis and explanations of operating expenses in financial results.
- Maintain and strengthen internal controls over financial reporting.
- Support SOX compliance efforts, including documentation, walkthroughs, testing coordination, and remediation.
- Serve as a key contact for external auditors during quarterly reviews and annual audits.
- Partner with FP&A, Technical Accounting, Tax, Treasury, and business stakeholders on accounting matters.
- Support integration of accounting requirements for new systems or business activities.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance close efficiency, automation, and documentation quality.
- Support ERP system enhancements, implementations, and controls optimization.
- Establish best practices to improve accuracy, consistency, and scalability of accounting processes.
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required.
Experience6–10 years of progressive accounting experience. Prior public accounting experience preferred. Experience in a corporate or public-company environment a plus. (Re)
Insurance experience preferred.
- Strong working knowledge of U.S. GAAP and internal control frameworks.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication abilities.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a deadline-driven environment.
- Advanced Excel skills and experience with ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, Workday Financials).
- Demonstrated ownership and accountability for accurate financial results.
- Strong attention to detail balanced with operational efficiency.
- Ability to build trust and influence across finance and business teams.
