Nurse Practitioner​/Physician Assistant, PD, Medical Surgical -Down Unit - Atlantic.

Job Description

Atlantic Health is seeking an Advanced Practice Professional (APP) for the Medical Surgical Step-Down Unit at Morristown Medical Center. The APP will provide direct patient care for complex, acute medical and surgical patients, performing exams, diagnostics, prescriptions, and coordinating care.

• Job schedule is Per Diem days and nights, twelve‑hour shifts.
• Provide and coordinate clinical care for medical and surgical step‑down patients.
• In collaboration with attending physician and interprofessional team, round daily on patients to assess, diagnose, plan treatment, set priorities and outcomes, and evaluate the effectiveness and cost efficiency of patient care.
• Assess patients for changes in status and institute appropriate interventions; initiate emergency interventions to stabilize patients when appropriate.
• Analyze clinical practice patterns to provide the best medical care and increase effectiveness and efficiency.
• Communicate verbally and in writing all pertinent patient information to provider team, nursing staff, and other relevant healthcare providers.
• Document in the patient’s chart all relevant data including but not limited to results of diagnostic tests, laboratory results, patient’s condition and response to therapies/interventions, communications with provider team.
• Role model competence in all nurse practitioner / physician assistant advanced skills.
• Provide family‑centered care by communicating with the family regarding the changing health care needs of the patient.
• Support IRB‑approved clinical research / trials through a variety of activities.
• Perform and participate in quality performance improvement activities and clinical research.
• Serve as a clinical expert and leadership consultant to nursing, healthcare team members, and the larger community.

• Master’s degree as Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant from an accredited program.
• NP or PA Certification and NJ License required.
• DEA and CDS required.
• ACLS and BLS required.
• Minimum of 2‑3 years of Critical Care or Step‑Down Unit experience preferred.
• Excellent communication and computer skills.
• Strong work ethic and a team player who can work independently.
