Nursing Assistant, Per Diem Kahn , Atlantic Health Morristown Medical Center

Job Responsibilities

• Direct Patient Care: Assist with ADLs, hygiene, mobility, toileting, and emotional support; administer basic treatments such as dressing changes, telemetry, specimen collection; support nursing personnel; assist patients with daily activities; measure and record daily weights and vital signs including I&Os, monitor patient condition, and perform blood glucose monitoring.
• Reports changes in patient condition: Knowledgeable of normal vital sign ranges, recognize abnormal findings, report to primary nurse; participate in daily huddle; document timely in patient medical record.
• Determines priorities of care: Demonstrate flexibility in responding to patient needs while completing assignments; complete all assignments unless otherwise directed; work as a team member; seek approval for reprioritization of complex events; perform activities without supervision.
• Provides and Maintains Safety and Comfort Measures for Patient: Answer call lights promptly and courteously; ensure call bell and telephone are within reach before leaving room; clean, stock, and set up rooms for arriving patients; verify patient IDs, falls, allergies; keep rooms neat and clean; respond expeditiously to bed and chair alarms; serve as Patient Safety Technician when required; round with purpose using appropriate scripting;
  
  give report to oncoming shift.
• Maintains Safe Environment: Adhere to OSHA, Joint Commission, Board of Health, and hospital standards; observe and maintain isolation precautions; follow hand‑washing protocol; maintain a clean, clutter‑free work area; use and store equipment properly; use communication devices (Vocera) as policy requires; work in a fast‑paced environment while providing positive customer service.
• Equipment Care: Maintain logs of equipment sent to Clinical Engineering; report lost or unreparable equipment to charge nurse; return rental equipment timely with patient identification; keep equipment cleaned and charged; notify unit associate of needed repairs and attach repair tags; orient new staff to equipment care.
• Provides Emotional Support to Patient and Significant Others: Observe and respond to emotional needs; report observations to RN; seek information regarding teaching goals for individual patients; observe RN instructions and provide consistent reinforcement.

• Education: High School Diploma or equivalent (required).
• Certifications: BLS Certification (preferred); CNA Certified (preferred).
• Experience: Nursing students preferred; 1–2 years previous patient care experience preferred.
