Technical Sales, Sales Engineer, Outside / Field Sales, CRM Systems & Management
Technical relationship builder who creates and grows capital-equipment opportunities
Travel: 20-30%; primarily U.S. and mostly air
Growth path: Sales or division leadership potential
Position SummaryThe Sales Engineer develops new and existing customer relationships for our medical-device manufacturing equipment and medical-device packaging solutions.
This is a technical capital-equipment sales role requiring both hunter and farmer capabilities: creating new opportunities, developing our established customer and prospect database, visiting customers, and expanding relationships by understanding how customers manufacture and package their products. The role is on-site when not traveling and is designed for a technically curious, service-minded seller who can grow into broader sales or division leadership.
Outcomes- Qualified opportunities and order growth through disciplined prospecting and relationship development.
- Customers view YOU as a credible, caring technical partner who understands their processes and problems.
- Existing accounts are expanded by identifying additional applications, departments, and other needs we can serve.
- The opportunity pipeline, next actions, customer history, and forecasts are accurate and current in the CRM.
- Customer commitments are technically sound, internally aligned, and consistent with approved price, scope, and delivery expectations.
- New-business development. Proactively identify, contact, and develop prospective customers through our database, referrals, marketing leads, trade shows, targeted outreach, and market research.
- Account growth. Maintain and deepen relationships with existing customers, including equipment-anniversary outreach, application reviews, site visits, and discovery of additional needs.
- Technical discovery. Learn how customers manufacture and package their products; ask effective questions; connect customer problems to appropriate our capabilities and solutions.
- Customer visits and travel. Travel throughout the United States for customer meetings, facility visits, demonstrations, trade shows, and opportunity development. International travel may occur occasionally.
- Opportunity management. Qualify opportunities, establish next steps, coordinate resources, maintain momentum through long capital-equipment sales cycles, and communicate realistic forecasts.
- Proposal coordination. Work with Applications Engineering, Sales Support, Engineering, and Costing to develop accurate quotations and presentations; explain scope, options, tradeoffs, and value to the customer.
- Relationship stewardship. Follow through consistently, serve customers honestly, and pursue solutions that genuinely help rather than selling unnecessary options.
- CRM discipline. Maintain complete contact, activity, opportunity, quote, forecast, and follow-up information; use CRM reports and customer history to plan outreach.
- Digital selling. Lead effective Microsoft Teams meetings, share drawings and documents, communicate professionally by phone and email, and use modern sales and collaboration tools independently.
- Cross-functional coordination. Work with Applications Engineering, Engineering, Service, Operations, Marketing, and leadership to align customer needs with our capabilities.
- Market feedback. Report customer trends, competitor activity, emerging applications, and product opportunities that may support future growth.
- The Sales Engineer owns outbound prospecting, opportunity development, customer visits, and relationship growth; the Applications Engineer provides deeper inbound technical and quotation support.
- This role is not a field-service technician or machine-design engineer, although occasional visits with Service or technical team members may be required to support a customer relationship.
- The Sales Engineer may recommend solutions and commercial approaches but may not independently commit the company to unapproved price, delivery, contractual terms, or unvalidated performance.
- The position works across multiple product offerings, with priorities set by Sales leadership as the business develops.
- A consistent flow of qualified opportunities is developed from new and existing accounts.
- Opportunity value, stage, probability, next action, and timing are current and credible.
- Sales results expand across both product groups in line with company goals.
- Existing customers generate additional contacts, applications, quotes, referrals, and orders.
- Customer proposal coordination and followup are timely and disciplined.
- Customers experience technical credibility, integrity, responsiveness, and genuine care.
- Develop enough mechanical and product knowledge to discuss our equipment and customer applications with confidence and know when to involve technical support.
- Demonstrate the ability to connect with people, use the CRM, pursue opportunities consistently, travel willingly, and represent our…
