Job Summary

Job Title: Multi‑Craft Field Welder

Department: Operations

Reports To: Multi‑Craft Millwright Foreman

FLSA Status: Non‑Exempt

Summary: At Cherokee Millwright, a multi‑craft company focused on customer needs, this position plans, lays out, welds, installs, and repairs metal components according to blueprints and industry standards. Field employees are cross‑trained in trades such as millwrighting, pipe fitting, welding, sheet metal, and civil, and work on other crafts as needed.

• Laying out pieces to be assembled according to blueprints, schematics or work orders.
• Using manual, semi‑automatic, or automatic welding equipment to join, surface, fabricate, and repair metal parts.
• Positioning pieces to be welded into jigs, holding fixtures, guides, and steps using measuring instruments and hand tools.
• Inspecting completed work for conformance to specifications.
• Performing minor maintenance on equipment.
• Observing all safety practices, maintaining required records.
• Participating in safety committees or initiatives as required.
• Utilizing skills in other crafts to meet customer needs.

No Supervision.

Must pass structural and 6G pipe weld test. Must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

High School diploma or GED equivalent and two or more years of experience with industrial and commercial applications.

Apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed written or oral instructions. Deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

Forklift license may be required.

Operate hydraulic press brake, hydraulic shear, Vulcan plasma cutting table, Pittsburg machine, TDC machine, roller machines, hand break, bead roller machine, bead forming machine, stomp shear, Magna bend, pin spot machine, drill press, band saw, plasma torch, track torch, MIG and TIG welders, overhead crane, and forklift.

Regular standing, frequent walking, use of hands and arms, occasional sitting, climbing and balancing. Regularly lift or move up to 10 pounds, frequently up to 25 pounds, occasionally up to 50 pounds. Requires close, color, peripheral, depth vision and ability to adjust focus.

Exposure to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts, occasional high or precarious places, toxic or caustic chemicals, electrical shock risk, vibration, loud noise levels.

Duties may change at any time. Includes work on millwright, pipe fitting, welding, sheet metal, mechanical, and rigging projects.
