Job Description
The Registered Nurse provides comprehensive, patient-centered care through skilled assessment, clinical expertise, interdisciplinary collaboration, and professional leadership. This role ensures safe, high-quality care while promoting patient advocacy, education, and staff development.
Key Responsibilities- Patient Assessment & Care Planning
- Conduct comprehensive patient assessments, including pain evaluation, functional status, discharge planning, and barriers to learning.
- Monitor medication effectiveness and report adverse reactions.
- Assess psychosocial needs and emotional distress; complete required screenings (e.g., PHQ) and initiate appropriate referrals.
- Anticipate and address age‑specific patient needs.
- Clinical Competency
- Demonstrate proficiency in equipment use, procedures, and medication administration.
- Administer chemotherapy/infusions and blood products in accordance with hospital policy.
- Identify and report risk management and safety concerns.
- Provide age-specific care with awareness of physiological variations.
- Documentation & Compliance
- Maintain complete, accurate, and timely documentation.
- Verify physician orders, document telephone orders, and ensure daily charges are accurate.
- Document changes in condition, care plans, and patient/family response to treatment.
- Follow policies related to elder abuse, domestic violence, and depression screening.
- Care Coordination & Leadership
- Delegate tasks appropriately and direct patient care activities.
- Prioritize care based on patient condition changes.
- Coordinate tests, procedures, and interdisciplinary care (pharmacy, social work, dietary, case management).
- Provide patient and family education.
- Serve as a patient advocate and communication liaison.
- Professional Practice & Development
- Maintain required annual clinical competencies.
- Participate in unit and hospital committees.
- Serve as a mentor/resource for staff.
- Identify learning needs and pursue professional development.
- Demonstrate flexibility, including floating to other departments as needed.
- Collaborate with physician practices on clinical protocols.
- Patient Experience & Safety
- Deliver courteous, timely, and respectful care.
- Protect patient privacy and confidentiality (HIPAA compliance).
- Maintain a safe care environment and adhere to National Patient Safety Goals.
- Assess fall risk and implement appropriate interventions.
- Staff Development & Quality Initiatives
- Support onboarding and competency validation for nursing staff.
- Promote professional development and compliance tracking.
- Participate as a Magnet champion.
- Assist with policy and competency development.
- Qualifications
- Active RN license.
- Demonstrated clinical competency in acute care setting.
- Strong communication and interdisciplinary collaboration skills.
- Commitment to patient-centered care and professional excellence.
- Bachelor's degree in Nursing or related field.
- 2‑3 years of experience in oncology.
- BSN, BLS, or ACLS required.
- Master's degree in Nursing or related field.
- OCN or other certification.
