Who are we?
Located in Morristown, TN 45 minutes northeast of Knoxville, Precision Boilers manufactures industry‑leading electric and fuel‑fired hot water boilers, steam generators, and a wide range of accessories such as deaerators and blowdown tanks.
OpportunityReporting to the Manager, Quality Assurance, the Quality Technician – Nights is responsible for conducting routine inspections of product fabrication throughout the process, verifying code compliance, and overseeing the quality of production from material receiving to hydrostatic testing and final inspection prior to shipping. This position requires a night shift schedule.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Inspect incoming critical components and materials and verify ASME Code compliance.
- Document and report inspection results, notifying warehouse personnel of conforming/acceptable product for release to inventory.
- Coordinate with the SCAR process and notify the Quality Engineer for out‑of‑spec issues.
- Conduct routine inspections and applicable testing at each fabrication stage (welding, cabinet & sheet metal, electrical, plumbing, paint, warehouse, shipping).
- Perform regular VT inspections during welding fabrication following inspection protocols.
- Assist with ASME code‑driven examinations (VT, MT, PT, RT) and related activities as needed.
- Create ASME nameplates and verify data contents for accuracy; oversee labeling and stickers.
- Report nonconformances, assist with data collection and reporting through quality gate boards and/or ProcessMAP database.
- Support internal and external inspections prior to hydrostatic testing and review paperwork required for hydrostatic testing.
- Participate in QMS documentation development and improvement.
- Participate in internal and external audits (ASME, QMS, suppliers, customer FATs).
- Contribute to engineering drawing feedback loops for BOM and drawing changes.
- Engage in programs and projects for quality improvement (e.g., Kaizen, VSM).
- Maintain a clean and safe work area, comply with safety precautions, and enforce standard policies and procedures.
- High school diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.) and 1–3 years of welding background or basic knowledge of ASME Code application.
- Must obtain MT, PT, and VT qualifications within six months of hire.
- Strong technical problem‑solving skills.
- 3+ years of applied experience with ASME Section IX for pressure vessels.
- Strong math skills and knowledge of GD&T and engineering drawings.
Requires moderate lifting (≥50 lbs), walking, standing, and repetitive motion throughout a night shift. Annual eye exams are required and covered by Precision Boilers.
Work EnvironmentPosition primarily based in the plant with occasional office exposure. Protective gear (earplugs, safety glasses, steel‑toe shoes) is mandatory and provided.
