Manager, Sponsored Projects (Pre-award) Job Responsibilities / Essential Functions
- Reporting to the Director, Sponsored Projects Office, leads and supervises all team members performing pre‑award activities for the sponsored projects research portfolio.
- Responsible for heading up administrative and budgetary reviews of clinical trials until Final Authorization to Proceed is granted.
- Oversees a team that ensures clinical trial agreements, study budgets, and timelines are accurately developed and aligned with institutional, sponsor, and compliance standards.
- Applies cost rules to various budget types.
- Collaborates with SPO team members, investigators, research teams, and sponsors during these processes.
- Prepares quality reports.
- Works closely with ACR colleagues to create a smooth transition to post‑award activity.
- Must have the ability to lead and motivate a team of pre‑award clinical trial professionals.
- Engagement driven.
- Observe, evaluate, and address performance.
- Bachelor’s degree in life sciences, healthcare administration, or related field required (master’s preferred).
- 3–5 years of experience in clinical research administration, with a focus on pre‑award and study start‑up activities.
- Proven ability to draft/redline, develop, and negotiate clinical trial agreements and budgets.
- Excellent organizational, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
- Team player with a fundamental understanding of engagement.
- Detail-oriented with analytical skills.
- Critical thinker.
- Ability to manage multiple projects under tight deadlines.
- Collaborative and solutions-focused approach.
- A leader among peers; a leader of people.
Job Requirements
Member of a research-related professional organization preferred.
