Position SummaryWe are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Grading Superintendent to lead and oversee grading operations on active construction sites. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in civil construction, with a focus on grading and site work, and a proven ability to manage crews, equipment, and schedules to ensure projects are completed safely, on time, and to spec.
Job Responsibilities- Maintaining a safe work environment in compliance with all safety policies and procedures using the appropriate tools and or people for the task.

- Maintaining the highest ethical standards at all times.
- Communicating openly with upper management about job and anything related to the job i.e., scheduling, job requirements, employees, subs, equipment, etc. as well as coordinating weekly look ahead
- Being responsible for field implementation of contract documents.
- Being responsible for field operations and jobs and crews assigned to you.
- Building positive relationships with team members, subcontractors, and clients is crucial. Interpersonal skills like empathy, diplomacy, and networking contribute to successful collaboration. Ensuring customer satisfaction is absolutely the most important role you will play. We will always have a business if we have repeat business because people are satisfied.
- Supervising foreman’s activities and the performance of their regular duties.
- Analyzing construction equipment requirements and maintenance.
- Maintaining daily records of significant project facts, events, and conditions.
- Entering daily project data including but not limited to labor, equipment and quantity reporting.
- Determining soil conditions, utility conflicts, and other factors affecting the daily operation of jobs.
- Working with job owners to ensure customer satisfaction. This is absolutely the most vital role. We will always have a business if we have repeat business because people are satisfied.
- Instructing and training new employees to ensure the safety of everyone on the job. An untrained employee is a liability.
- Operating equipment as needed in rare situations to properly complete task at hand or instruct the operator or foreman how to do the task themselves.
- Performing all duties as necessary or assigned.
- Must have excellent communication, organization, coordination, and time management skills. Active listening as well as critical thinking and reasoning skills are absolutely necessary.
- Familiarity with construction technology, including GPS, lasers, and slope control, enhances efficiency and accuracy.
- Must have thorough understanding of construction drawings, standards, and specifications.
- Thorough knowledge of erosion control installation, maintenance, and documentation.
- Knowledge of traffic control standards
- Proficient in reading blueprints
- Superintendents must be problem solvers and can work with unexpected challenges that occur daily.
- 7-10 years’ experience as a grading/excavation superintendent (utilities a plus).
- Must effectively manage employees and anticipate potential issues.
- Superintendents must maintain a high level of professionalism. This includes adhering to schedules, following safety protocols, and handling conflicts professionally.
- Taking proactive steps to address issues and improve processes demonstrates effective leadership. Superintendents should be self-motivated and forward-thinking.
- Adapting to changing conditions and making the most of available resources is vital. Superintendents need to find creative solutions to optimize efficiency.
