Senior Financial Controller - (Open to fractional / Part time engagement for the first 6 months)
CSE USA is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Sr. Financial Controller to oversee all aspects of financial management and reporting.
This role reports directly to the CEO and works closely with Excalibur International and CSG financial leadership. The Financial Controller will be responsible for accounting, financial planning, compliance, and cash management, while advising and driving best practices in financial performance.
A critical responsibility of this role is to lead the annual budget process, from initial coordination through final presentation to senior leadership. This position is highly visible and essential to ensuring strong financial practices, supporting compliance, and enabling the company’s ambitious growth plans.
Key Responsibilities Financial Planning & Budgeting- Lead the annual budgeting process across all departments.
- Prepare, consolidate, and deliver the professional budget presentation for senior leadership and the Board.
- Develop multi-year forecasts, financial models, and planning tools to support U.S. and trans-Atlantic growth strategies.
- Oversee all accounting operations, including payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger.
- Manage month-end and year-end close, ensuring timely, accurate financial statements in accordance with GAAP.
- Provide clear management reports and dashboards for decision-making.
- Monitor performance against budgets and forecasts, identifying variances and recommending corrective action.
- Analyze profitability drivers, contract margins, and cost structures to improve results.
- Support pricing, proposals, and negotiations with robust financial insights.
- Establish strong internal controls, processes, and documentation to safeguard assets.
- Ensure compliance with U.S. accounting standards, tax laws, and federal regulations.
- Support ITAR/EAR and SSA-related compliance requirements from a finance perspective.
- Coordinate audits, tax filings, and relationships with external financial partners.
- Advise the CEO and leadership team on financial strategies, risks, and opportunities.
- Provide financial due diligence and integration support for potential acquisitions.
- Implement systems, tools, and processes that scale with the company’s rapid growth.
- Mentor and develop a future finance team as the business expands.
- Partner with CSG and Excalibur International finance teams to align on cross-border transactions, transfer pricing, and reporting requirements.
- Provide guidance on international trade finance tools and risk mitigation strategies.
- Ensure financial planning accounts for FX fluctuations, tax optimization, and compliance with both U.S. and EU regulations.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA or CMA strongly preferred).
- 10–15+ years of progressive finance/accounting experience, including at least 5 years in a controller or senior FP&A leadership role.
- Deep understanding of GAAP and corporate finance.
- Demonstrated success leading the budgeting process and presenting results to executive leadership.
- Advanced Excel and financial modeling skills; ERP/accounting systems experience required.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
- Experience working in a multinational company strongly preferred, with exposure to:
- Transfer pricing and tax matters related to international trade
- Foreign exchange (FX) risk management and accounting for FX effects
- Banking instruments to mitigate trade risk (letters of credit, surety bonds, guarantees, etc.)
- Understanding of INCOTERMS and their financial/contractual implications on global transactions
- Industry experience in defense, aerospace, or manufacturing preferred.
- A disciplined, annual budget process is executed smoothly, with professional presentations and actionable insights for leadership.
- Management has clear visibility into financial performance, risks, and opportunities.
- Strong compliance and controls result in clean audits and zero regulatory issues.
- Financial systems and reporting processes are efficient, scalable, and support rapid U.S. and international growth.
- The Controller becomes a trusted financial partner to the CEO and Board, providing clarity that drives profitable decision-making.
