L&L Construction Group is seeking an experienced and detail-driven
Assistant Controller
to help lead the financial operations of our growing organization. This role supports day-to-day accounting functions, financial reporting, and job costing across multiple construction entities, while assisting with month-end close and overall fiscal management.

Position Overview:

L&L Construction Group is a leading group of privately held companies servicing a full range of construction services offered by L&L Concrete, Inc., East Coast Civil Group, Triangle Ready Mix and Nova Casa Homes. Our expanding group is actively searching for the ideal candidate to serve in the position of Assistant Controller. This individual must be a Go-Getter.

We require the individual to have a strong accounting knowledge in the construction industry.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Maintaining and analyzing general ledger accounts, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
  • Assist with the General Ledger closing process, variance analysis, GAAP and FASB compliance.
  • Preparing and maintaining financial and business transactions, applying accounting principles, including work that is analytical, evaluative, and advisory.
  • Assist with various aspects of finance to include budgeting, cash flow projections, consolidations, job costing and other miscellaneous management reports that will be required.
  • Oversee the entire fixed asset lifecycle, including maintaining the register, ensuring proper capitalization/depreciation, tracking additions/disposals, coordinating physical asset verifications, and supporting audit/tax inquiries related to fixed assets.
  • Assist in the mentoring and reviewing day-to-day work performed by team members to ensure accuracy and compliance.
  • Provide back-up support for Payroll services to include payroll tax liability payments.
  • Assist with the implementation and maintenance of new software and/or ERP systems utilized by all operating companies.
  • Reconcile balance sheet accounts to identify discrepancies and areas which require improvement as well as work to establish balance sheet reconciliations for all companies.
  • Perform complicated tasks related to work-in-progress schedules to ensure project accuracy in project reporting. This work will require an understanding of job costing and percentage of completion.
  • Willingness to cross train with each department in order to get a firm understanding of department goals and processes and assist in the development of SOPs.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in accounting or a related field and 7+ years of experience in various roles in a finance department or CPA firm.
  • Construction industry experiences including knowledge of percentage-of-completion and completed contract methods of accounting; as a complete understanding of work-in-process and over/under billings.
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel and experience in working with large amounts of data to prepare management reporting.
  • Experience with configuring, customizing, and integrating ERP software to meet business needs.
  • Working experience with complex data sets and the ability to independently resolve complex issues.
  • Have strong problem-solving skills and an understanding of statistical analysis.
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment to manage multiple projects and competing priorities.
