About the Ocean Import Coordinator Role

Focus People is hiring an Ocean Import Coordinator for a confidential client in Morrisville, NC.

This is an on-site, temp-to-hire opportunity supporting international import operations. The position will involve shipment coordination, documentation, customer communication, carrier and agent follow-up, tracking, and general import support from origin through final delivery.

The ideal candidate is organized, detail-oriented, customer-focused, and comfortable working in a fast-paced freight forwarding or international logistics environment. This role requires strong follow-up skills, the ability to manage multiple shipments at once, and a sense of urgency when working with customers, agents, carriers, and internal teams.

Pay

$20.00-$25.00 per hour, based on experience

Schedule

Monday-Friday
8:00 AM-5:00 PM
On-site in Morrisville, NC

This position is expected to begin as a temporary assignment with the potential to convert to a direct hire position if performance, business needs, and long-term fit align.

Key Responsibilities
  • Coordinate and follow up on ocean import shipments from origin through final delivery.
  • Communicate with customers, carriers, agents, vendors, and internal team members.
  • Prepare customer and agent quotes as needed.
  • Assist with shipping arrangements and carrier coordination.
  • Set up shipment files and manage pre-alerts.
  • Provide customer updates and shipment status communication.
  • Prepare, review, and organize import-related documentation.
  • Coordinate final delivery arrangements.
  • Process shipment charges, billing details, proof of delivery, and final shipment updates.
  • Track cargo and follow up on ETAs, delivery status, and shipment completion.
  • Maintain accurate shipment records in internal systems.
  • Support quality, compliance, and operational processes.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
What We Are Looking For
  • Previous experience in freight forwarding, ocean import, air import, international logistics, customs brokerage, or import coordination.
  • Strong customer service and communication skills.
  • Ability to multitask and stay organized while managing multiple shipments.
  • Strong attention to detail with documentation, follow-up, and shipment updates.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Comfortable working with customers, agents, carriers, vendors, and internal teams.
  • Strong problem-solving and time management skills.
  • Positive, team-oriented attitude with a sense of urgency.
Preferred Experience
  • 1-3 years of experience in international logistics operations.
  • 2-3 years of customer service experience.
  • Experience using freight forwarding, logistics, or shipment tracking systems.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and Word.
  • Ocean import experience is strongly preferred.
  • Air import experience is a plus.
Minimum Requirements
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
  • Must be able to work on-site in Morrisville, NC.
  • Must be able to complete required pre-employment screening.
