Job Summary

Balazs Nano Analysis, a division of Air Liquide Group, seeks a Scientist II for its Morrisville, Pennsylvania site. The Chemical Lab specializes in QC/QA, failure analysis, and trace‑level contamination in gases used in the electronics industry. We use Gas Chromatography, FTIR, moisture analyzers, ICP‑MS, and other analytical instrumentation.

The Scientist II will serve as a Lead Technical Contributor in analytical metrology, combining technical expertise with routine and non‑routine analytical projects. This role leads the strategic development and implementation of critical testing procedures, partners to ensure measurement capabilities advance to international standards, and fosters customer‑facing relationships while providing technical support across the laboratory.

Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement robust analytical methods for gas impurity analysis to meet internal and external requests.
  • Conduct complex routine and non‑routine analysis using GC, GC‑MS, and FTIR, providing insightful interpretation of data.
  • Lead and coordinate analytical projects and provide technical guidance and mentorship to chemists and lab technicians.
  • Communicate results effectively to internal and external customers and understand strategic needs.
  • Maintain laboratory instrumentation performance and provide feedback into the preventive maintenance program.
  • Possess deep theoretical and practical knowledge in GC, GC‑MS, GC‑ICP‑MS, ICP‑MS and associated advanced measurement principles, troubleshooting, and method development.
  • Develop, review and revise Standard Operating Procedures and quality system documentation.
  • Apply exceptional problem‑solving and critical thinking skills, thriving as a technical lead on complex analysis.
  • Comprehensively understand all metrology studies including Instrument Detection, Method Detection, Accuracy, Linearity, Gauge Repeatability and Reproducibility testing, including full Measurement Uncertainty Analysis.
  • Design and use advanced gas dilution systems for complex Metrology Studies and reference material preparation.
  • Work with statistical software such as JMP.
  • Demonstrate advanced analytical thinking, relationship building, and customer service orientation.
  • Show strong project coordination capabilities and ability to provide technical guidance.
Required Qualifications
  • Ph.D. in Chemistry, Materials Science, or related field with 2–5 years of industrial experience OR M.S. degree with 5–7 years of industrial experience.
  • Proficient in computer skills such as LIMS, Microsoft Office, Google Suite, and Spotfire or other SPC graphing tools.
  • Demonstrated leadership and project management experience, leading cross‑functional technical teams.
  • Flexibility and initiative to manage high‑priority, time‑sensitive projects and provide expert coverage as needed.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, including presenting complex technical information to internal and external customers.
  • Strong organizational and meticulous record‑keeping skills.
  • Availability to work late hours and some holidays & weekends when coverage may be required.
  • Ability to work in a team environment with effective communication.
  • Self‑motivated, initiative, and capable of leading small teams.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in the semiconductor industry.
  • Experience in the industrial gas industry.
