Job Summary

This position is responsible for executing an academic advisement strategy that supports the retention, progression, and graduation of students across several degree programs in Clayton State University's Center for Advising and Retention. The advisor in this role will serve as the front-line contact for undergraduate students, providing academic advising that drives engagement and empowers students to achieve their academic and career goals.

They will build formative relationships with students by interpreting information related to course descriptions, program requirements, prerequisites, and registration procedures. The advisor will play a vital role in maximizing undergraduate students' persistence to graduation and will offer excellent customer service and high-quality advising assistance.

Responsibilities

* Monitors, advises, and tracks the retention, progression, and graduation of all students within the assigned population.

* Executes and evaluates campaigns in collaboration with the Assistant Director and/or Director.

* Provides foundational support while advising on academic, career, and life goals.

* Makes resolution recommendations on academic advising matters to the Assistant Director.

* Advises students regarding academic programs, curricula, and course selections.

* Maintains updated student files throughout their academic careers and makes changes to records as necessary.

* Disseminates information on university policies and procedures to faculty, parents, students, and others.

* Provides assistance and advisement to students regarding program admission requirements, registration, probation, academic suspension, and other academic policies and procedures.

* Conducts orientation sessions for groups of incoming students.

* Conducts informational outreach to various classes and/or student groups.

* Audits student records for curriculum, major, and graduation requirements.

* Follows up with students who have received failing midterm or final grades.

* Compares transcripts with entrance and graduation requirements and advises students on appropriate actions.

* Refers students with academic discrepancies to the appropriate officials for further action.

* Assists in the preparation of special reports related to enrollment and other matters.

* Evaluates and maintains student records for degree requirements using the academic evaluation system.

* Monitors student registration activities and academic performance/progress.

* Coordinates communications to students regarding course scheduling, core and major requirements, academic resources, and related information.

* Participates in college or institutional student success initiatives.

Required Qualifications

* Bachelors Degree and One (1) or more years of related work experience, preferably in higher education.

Preferred Qualifications

* Masters degree preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

* Knowledge of student information systems (for example, BANNER) is preferred.

* Knowledge of academic fields related to advising disciplines.
