Overview

The DeKalb District Attorney’s Office has an opening for an Investigator in the Trial Division Unit
. The investigator is part of a court division trial team made up of Assistant District Attorneys, Victim Advocates, Trial Assistants, and Paralegals that work together to investigate, prosecute, and resolve felony cases. The investigator gathers and analyzes facts and evidence to provide the Assistant District Attorneys the information they need to make prosecutorial decisions.

Responsibilities
  • Reviewing case files and ensuring that all relevant evidence has been secured and/or submitted to the GBI, properly documented, and organized for prosecution;
  • Interviewing lay, expert and law enforcement witnesses;
  • Advising law enforcement officers in the handling of complex criminal investigations;
  • Coordinating with Assistant District Attorneys, Victim Advocates and other team members in the review of case files to determine what investigation is needed;
  • Identifying and locating victims and witnesses that are needed for prosecution of the case;
  • Participating in the prosecution of cases by attending court, coordinating with victims and witnesses regarding their testimony, preparing exhibits for court, testifying at Grand Jury and possibly during trial regarding investigative actions and findings.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice or a related field required;
  • Five years of experience in criminal justice or criminal investigation;
  • Or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
Knowledge / Skills / Abilities
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia driver’s license;
  • Must possess and maintain Georgia Peace Officer Standards and Training Council (POST Peace Officer) certification;
  • Possesses a minimum of five (3) years of investigative experience;
  • Must be able to multitask and work under occasionally stressful time constraints.
Employment and Screening

Employment is contingent upon the completion and satisfactory results of a criminal background check and physical/drug screen.

Salary
