The Ogeechee Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office is seeking an experienced prosecutor to serve as an Assistant District Attorney in the Major Crimes Division, based in our Springfield (Effingham County) office.
This position will serve on the Major Crimes Team prosecuting serious felony offenses in Bulloch, Screven, Jenkins, and Effingham Counties. The Major Crimes Assistant District Attorney is responsible for the prosecution of complex and high-level felony cases, which may include homicide, armed robbery, aggravated assault, and other violent or high-impact crimes.
Key Responsibilities- Review investigative reports submitted by law enforcement agencies to determine prosecutorial merit and identify additional investigative needs.
- Provide legal guidance to law enforcement during ongoing investigations.
- Draft indictments and accusations; prepares other legal processes as needed.
- Conduct legal research and analyze complex evidentiary and constitutional issues.
- Evaluate potential defenses and negotiate plea agreements where appropriate.
- Develop comprehensive trial strategies for serious felony cases.
- Present cases to the Grand Jury.
- Conduct jury trials, bench trials, and evidentiary hearings.
Prepare and argue pre-trial motions, including motions to suppress, bond hearings, and other contested matters. - Ensures compliance with discovery obligations.
- Works closely with victims and witnesses in coordination with Victim-Witness Advocates.
- Collaborate with fellow Major Crimes prosecutor, investigators, and support staff.
- Assists in training or mentoring less experienced attorneys when appropriate.
- Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school.
- Active member in good standing with the State Bar of Georgia
- Admitted to practice before the Georgia Supreme Court and Georgia Court of Appeals
- Minimum of ten (10) years of prosecutorial or comparable felony litigation experience.
- Strong knowledge of Georgia criminal law, criminal procedure, and rules of evidence.
- Extensive felony trial experience
- Demonstrated leadership and mentoring experience
- Strong legal research and writing skills
- Ability to manage a high-volume, serious felony caseload
Commensurate with experience and qualifications based on state pay scale
