Assistant Director Of Disability Services & Student Support

The Assistant Director of Disability Services & Student Support serves as a key leader within the Division of Student Affairs and supports the mission of creating an accessible and student-centered learning environment where students have opportunities to thrive academically, socially, and personally. Reporting to the Director of Disability Services, the Assistant Director provides leadership in the administration of disability accommodations, student case management, behavioral support, accommodated testing, ADA compliance, and coordinated student care initiatives.

The position serves as a primary resource for students with disabilities while collaborating closely with the Dean of Students Office, Care Center, Housing & Residence Life, Counseling Services, Academic Affairs, Financial Aid, Enrollment Management, Student Conduct, and community partners to address barriers to student success. The Assistant Director manages complex student situations requiring assessment, intervention, advocacy, and coordinated care while ensuring compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), ADA Amendments Act (ADAAA), Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), University System of Georgia (USG) policies, and institutional procedures.

The Assistant Director also assists with strategic planning, departmental assessment, policy development, ADA Title II implementation, digital accessibility initiatives, outreach programming, crisis response, and university-wide student success efforts.

Disability Services Administration, Intake & Accommodation Management The Assistant Director:

  • Conducts comprehensive intake appointments with prospective, transfer, newly admitted, and currently enrolled students requesting disability accommodation.
  • Reviews and evaluates medical, psychological, educational, and professional documentation to determine eligibility under ADA, Section 504, and USG guidelines.
  • Engages in the interactive process to determine reasonable accommodations that provide equal access while maintaining academic integrity.
  • Determines eligibility for:
    Academic accommodation Housing accommodation Emotional Support Animal (ESA) requests Temporary medical accommodations Dietary accommodations Pregnancy-related accommodations Accessible furniture requests Communication access services Assistive technology
  • Develop individualized accommodation plans and issues official accommodation letters.
  • Coordinate accommodation implementation with faculty and campus departments.
  • Provides ongoing accommodation reviews and reassessments.
  • Maintains an active student caseload through individualized case management and follow-up.
  • Educates students regarding disability laws, accommodation procedures, self-advocacy, student rights and responsibilities.
  • Assists students in resolving accommodation-related concerns through collaborative problem solving.
  • Maintains confidential electronic records in compliance with FERPA, ADA, Section 504, and university policies.

Accommodated Testing & Exam Administration The Assistant Director:

  • Coordinate and oversee the daily operation of accommodated testing services.
  • Schedule and administer quizzes, midterms, final examinations, placement exams, and other assessments requiring approved accommodations.
  • Ensure testing accommodation is implemented accurately, consistently, and in compliance with federal regulations.
  • Coordinate with faculty regarding exam delivery, return procedures, academic integrity, and accommodation implementation.
  • Monitor testing environments to ensure confidentiality, security, and adherence to university testing procedures.
  • Develop and maintain testing protocols, operational procedures, and quality assurance standards.
  • Supervise testing logistics, scheduling, exam materials, and testing room utilization.
  • Utilize case management systems to coordinate testing requests and monitor accommodation usage.

Dean of Students & Care Center Responsibilities The Assistant Director:

  • Assist the Director of Disability Services, Dean of Students, and Care Center with student support initiatives and non-clinical case management as assigned.
  • Provide referrals and resource coordination for students experiencing academic, financial, medical, housing, food insecurity, or personal challenges.
  • Collaborate with campus partners to ensure students relate to appropriate university and community resources.
  • Participate in CARE Team, Behavioral Intervention Team (BIT), and other student support meetings as assigned.

Operations & Compliance The Assistant Director:

  • Assist with the daily operations of the Disability Services office.
  • Maintain electronic student records and accommodation management systems (e.g., Maxient, Service Now, AIM/SAM, or comparable software).
