Maintenance Technician / Mechanic
Job Overview
Maintenance Mechanic Technician is responsible for safely maintaining, repairing, replacing, and modifying all processing, packaging and facility equipment to ensure optimal quality and efficiency.
Day to Day ResponsibilitiesOperate CMMS system and demonstrate 100% functionality in order to complete work orders as well as log corrective maintenance issues in the system. Effectively communicate with production personnel and other mechanics to identify problematic areas of concern; provide and receive feedback and support through collection and analysis of information. Perform electrical repairs and troubleshoot for PLC controls, AC & DC motor controls, solid state motor controls, advanced circuits and grounding, interpret diagrams and test equipment.
Read schematics, drawings, and manuals to establish facts and draw valid conclusions. Support facility maintenance equipment, including waste water equipment, compressed air, refrigeration and building safety equipment. Demonstrate understanding of the company's objectives including productivity, yields, food safety, quality, customer service and cost goals; daily activities should support achieving those goals. Perform daily inspections, emergency repairs, and routine adjustments; follow periodic preventive maintenance schedules.
Maintain organized documentation, inspection records, etc. Serve as a resource to other departments to resolve mechanical issues and maintain production efficiencies. Provide support to Process Improvement projects and participate on safety teams. Perform other duties as required or assigned.
Skills & Qualifications Desired
Physical Requirements:
Stand for extended periods, walk, reach, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, bend or crawl. Climb stairs and ladders or step onto a platform several times throughout the shift; occasionally required to sit. Push, pull, lift or move 50 pounds. Operate light motorized equipment, hand and power tools skillfully and safely. Work environment may include exposure to wet/cold conditions (34‑36°F) and hot conditions, high precarious places (up to 25 feet above ground), outside weather (rooftop), moderate to occasionally loud noise requiring hearing protection.
Must possess proficient mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic troubleshooting skills, logic and control circuits, and emergency repair skills. Ability to identify and repair problematic issues concerning all equipment and machinery, including innovative solutions. Use of a multimeter and other measurement instruments. Read, write and speak English. Work effectively in a team setting. Cross-train other mechanics and production personnel. Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs:
Outlook, Word, and Excel. Use CMMS to track work orders, preventive maintenance and inventory. Math skills: fractions, decimals, percentages, metric system. Understand schematics, drawings and manuals. Familiarity with preventive and reliability-based maintenance. Strong organizational and communication skills. Troubleshoot PLC controls such as Allen‑Bradley and GE Fanuc. Proficient fabrication and welding skills. Bilingual skills (English/Spanish and/or English/Polish). Food processing industry experience.
Pass the Ramsay exam.
Minimum 3–5 years experience with industrial, high speed processing, packaging, weighing, filling and inspection equipment, OR minimum two years of technical training. Minimum High School diploma or GED, some Technical School coursework, or Mechanical Certification (must have at least one of these). Other Information:
